Last Thursday evening, October 22, I finally ordered my several-times configured T500 (wish I'd included the fingerprint reader!). Fast forward to the evening of October 29, and I'm setting up my new ThinkPad. I never imagined I would see it this quickly, and it shipped standard UPS ground.

This should be one of my last posts with my Pavilion. Now, back to setting up the ThinkPad.

It's because you live in the Upstate! OK, almost in the Upstate.... ;-)

Please let us know how it goes - I ordered almost the exact same T500 as you today (but with the WSXGA+ screen)!
As a newbie to this site, I am almost overwhelmed with all the info...

Will do. Got FireFox, Thunderbird, and Gmail up and running, so this is my first ThinkPad post. So far so good. The display is better than I had anticipated. Love the matte. Getting used to the keyboard layout. Took me a little to recognize the Ctrl and Fn are reversed. Not crazy about that.

Yep, we are in the Upstate. I guess the ThinkPad was flown in from China to metro Atlanta, which helped with speed on UPS's end.

Broadus, what was the estimated shipping date after you placed your order on October 22?

    Arrrgh....This makes no sense...
I ordered our T500 before you and still don't have it.....!
Plus our ship date is estimated as Nov 11th.

Edit: That's great you got your new laptop that quickly!
excited to hear your first impressions!

You probably had a different configuration than what Broadus did for himself. Based on what you put in your ThinkPad you might get different ship dates. One reason for it is that some part is not immediately available and your order is waiting for that.

It's not so much based on the T500 more on the customization you chose and the likes.

It was thirteen days, which would have put it at November 5.

And here I was thinking it was just my aura!

Your UPS tracking number will show you the exact route it took to get to you.

Thanks, I must have had a "friendly" configuration. Maybe they have plenty of WXGA LED screens on hand.

BTW, I discovered that my screen is the infamous Samsung. Funny, but I was quite pleased with it before I discovered it was a Samsung, thinking I had won the screen lottery and had an LG. However, it is nice and bright, especially compared it to my purchased in February '07 Pavilion CCFL screen, and the fonts appear sharper on the ThinkPad, even though both are WXGA resolution. The colors seem good, and it's not hard to find the sweet spot. Perhaps I'm just not discriminating enough about such things.

The keyboard, though, while good, I'm noticing that typing the w, e, r, s, d, and f keys feel a bit different than the other keys, making a "thud" sound when pressed. I'll have to look into that.

Got to get a lot of programs and data transferred from the Pavilion to the TP today before I can really test it.

I ordered mine on 10/20 and got an original estimated ship date of 11/5. After 2 days my order was "reset" and given a ship date of 11/11! No updates from anyone since then..

    I configured the WSXGA+ screen, C2D P8700, BT, Intel 5300.

Sorry to hear that. You have a different screen and processor. Don't know if one of those is holding it up. Hope you get some good news soon. I guess your status on your account page says it is still "in process," or whatever it is that it says.

Yeah it still says "in process". Does it ever update before saying "shipped" or whatever?
