I just got my new T510 with WIN 7 Pro 32bit. I tried to use the built-in storage management tools to partition the harddrive, but they would only allow me to free-up about 220Gb out of 500 due to unmoveable files. I wasn't willing to try some of the circumventions I found, so I tried a 3rd party tool: Paragon's Partition Manager.

I managed to resize the OS partition and get all of the free space at the end of the drive (behind the restore partition). I created a new partition and (I thought) I was proceeding to format it. WRONG!! After the format (which loooked like it reported about a 1.8GB size as the messages flickered by) I get the dreaded "BOOTMGR record missing"

Please Help - Can anyone suggest a way out of this catastrophe? I tried using the ThinkVantage button during start-up but it has no effect, so I don't even know how I'd be able to restore the system from the restore partition.

Seeing as your issue is non-T510 specific, I've moved it to a new thread.

This is a common issue after partitioning with third-party tools - you'll need to make yourself a Windows 7 Recovery Disk and use it to fix the boot files of your Windows installation.

The Windows 7 Recovery Disk can be downloaded here. Follow the instructions and burn it to a CD, and insert that into your T510. From there, I believe you click on something that says "Repair your computer," and the disk will automatically fix the corrupted files.

You can take a look at this page on HowToGeek, which describes the same fix for a very similar issue after using GParted, another partitioning tool. It pretty much walks you through the same steps I did.

    That should do it!

You are a LIFESAVER!!! I followed your instructions. The 'Repair Disk' worked as advertised. Once I got my system back, I repaired my partitioning issues with the built-in system management tools. I had to run chkdsk on the new partition to recover lost clusters and then formatted it. Everything looks fine for now plus I have the repair disk for future misadventures.

A Monster THANK YOU to you!!
