First off, thanks to all who have reviewed the z61, t60, and t60 widescreen. I researched and purchased a z61 back in oct. 2006 for a family member. The reviews here were very helpful, and we've been very satisfied with the thinkpad.

Today, I purchased a new t60 widescreen (874149U) from ebay for my own use. This will be a big upgrade from my cheapie toshiba a65-s1062. I can't wait to receive it in the mail!

I wondered if anyone else hear has purchased a new, factory sealed thinkpad from ebay (or the like), and if I will be eligable for the vista express upgrade.

    Any thoughts?

I have not, however, I doubt you will be eligible. I may be wrong though, so don't take my word for it.

I am a little doubtful too, but I'm crossing my fingers...

    according to lenovo's website...

    Windows Vista Express Upgrade eligibility
To be eligible for the Express Upgrade program, you must meet all of the following requirements:

System must be purchased between October 26, 2006 through March 15, 2007
Customers must have a valid proof of purchase
A valid Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity for Windows® XP must be affixed to the system
The Vista Capable logo (shown at right) must be affixed to the system

I think 1,3, and 4 will meet the requirements. It's 2 that I'm wondering about...

If this is a legit purchase, you should be supplied with a valid proof of purchase. Is the notebook new from eBay?

yes... according to the seller it is "new in box, factory sealed."

The seller has 1200+ feedback with 99.8% positive feedback. And for what it's worth, the item was protected up to 2,000 dollars via paypal's buyer protection.

Sounds trustworthy (again, no sarcasm intended). About the upgrade though, I think the notebook must be purchased through Lenovo for you to be eligible, but I may be wrong.

Okay. I ask because i'm a bit skeptical of eBay purchases, heard a few stories of ThinkPads purchased 'new factory sealed' with ~99% positive feedbaack, yet the machine turned out to be clearly used. Specifically ThinkPad World; who's warranty is NOT through Lenovo.

I've always been a bit nervous about buying a PC on eBay, but I decided to try it this time... the seller had 1235 + feebacks and 3 - feebacks. The three negatives dated back to May 05, Apr 02, May 00. Most of the recent sales he had made were new in box notebooks, imacs, or electronics.

It was a 8741-49U w/ 3 year warrenty from the manufacture for $1570 which I felt was a good deal.

We'll see how it goes I guess...

Just give it a thorough going over and check the warranty status.

Well, after a month I'm still loving my thinkpad! The eBay transaction went well and everything was NIB :)

Plus, moduslink sent me an email this morning saying my validation is complete! So my paypal receipt was enough to qualify for the free upgrade...

    :)
