You can remove anything you want - I recommend uninstalling the ThinkVantage software - almost all of them EXCEPT for Access Connections, the Active HDD Protection, and the Power Manager.

Norton Corporate Antivirus I'd say keep, Diskeeper is necessary as it is a very good disk defragmenter.
Everything else you can take out.

An easy way is using this program

Random question: Did Lenovo include an actual Windows disk or is it a special one?

What kind of anti-genius would remove office 2007??!?!??!?!

You PAID for that. It costs over 200.00!!!

Unless you bought the laptop for ONLY gaming or use as a doorstop, you should never delete Office 2007.

It is a trial version on the laptops. Therefore, you didn't really pay for it.

I still strongly say not to uninstall office 2007 - almost everyone regardless of their life and profession use one or all of the programs.

My T61 came with a office 2007 trial, perhaps he means that.

Mine came with the trial as well. If you have another full version you should use that. I had office 2003 pro so there was no point in keeping the 2007 trial

I just got my T61 a week ago. I haven't had much time to play with it but it is running painfully slowly. What should I do? Will using something like PCdecrapifier fasten things up a bit or do I need to purchase some additional memory since I am running Vista Business with only 1 GB Ram? I do have Intel Turbo Memory but that doesn't really seem to be helping much at all. Memory is always shown to be running at 60% at best.

The machine looks beautiful otherwise. =D

You can use PC Decrapifier, but PCDecrapifier works only really to remove all the crap that came with your computer initially. It may not work with certain programs, mostly it works to remove the common things - Sonic, PowerDVD, etc etc. I think most of us here with ThinkPads have the ThinkVantage software being the main culprits. Look through the ThinkVantage software and remove what you think you do not need. This varies from person to person. The only things I left on mine were

    Access Connections (not really necessary)
    HDD Active Protection
    Power Manager
    OSD

I removed Google Picasa, and that was it; The ThinkPad Advantage stuff looks useful so far, especially the fingerprint/password stuff.

Yeah, you probably need to remove more than that. Picasa is fairly light on resources I believe.

Personally, I think you should really add another gig of ram. I'm hoping that you got the 1 gig of ram on 1 dimm, but either way you should have 2 gigs with vista. You should also do as other have suggested and get rid of the thinkvantage programs you don't use. I had all of them running for about a week before I started realizing what was needed and what wasn't.

The only thinkvantage software I have are

1)On screen display and lenovo interface drivers
2)Power managers, but only because of the battery stretch and the ability to choose when you want your computer to start charging. If you want to be conservative you can stick with only having the vista power manager.
    3)Active protective system
    4)fingerprint drivers

Anyone know of the easiest way to get a clean disc of Vista? I want to reformat my entire drive but no Vista disc. I want to dual boot Linux so its probably best to just format.

It looks like I'll need to download it off a torrent so far.

    Not like I'm pirating something I don't own ;)

Lenovo forced me to do it!

Anyways, it's really not worth the trouble to do it if you don't have a key.

Didn't your T61 come with a Any Time Upgrade DVD? You can use that as a Vista Install disc!

I uninstalled the Office 2007 Prof trial too. My Office 2007 Enterprise Edition key didn't work on it :s

And a few days later I did a fresh install, so there is no bloatware left anymore :p
