So, I received my T61 this week and been messing with it a little bit. Nice machine, but looks like its missing the Bluetooth radio I hard ordered with it. It doesn't show up when you press Fn-F5 and I don't see anything in device manager.
I called support and they said since the machine doesn't show up on their system as being registered yet, they can't do anything (I registered on Monday). The guy said registration could take up to 10 days. Pretty lame. You would think he could pull it up with just the serial number alone, being that they DID manufacture it and should know what was put in. Its like a case of the right hand not know what the left hand is doing.
I'm not missing anything right? I mean, it would be obviously listed if it was there, correct?
I'm beginning to question the quality of how things are now with Lenovo and with all of the other issues that other people have been experiencing.

On your oder status page for that laptop, did it list bluetooth as one of the included parts?
-
Yes, here's what it listed related to Bluetooth...
62P6054 VBB INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
42X1482 SBB BLUETOOTH W/ ANTENNA
42X1702 SBB BLUETOOTH SCREW -

Is it enabled in the bios?

Looked everywhere in BIOS and saw nothing related to Bluetooth in there. Interestingly, the fulfillment center (or something like that) called me a few minutes ago to try and get my warranty info updated so that they can proceed with getting this resolved. I just faxed them my packing slip (which also shows Bluetooth parts) and they are going to call me back after they update the system with the info.

Just to update... I talked to tech support again after they had my warranty info updated in the system and went through the motions to see if Bluetooth was there. After there wasn't any luck with that, he said that he doesn't see it on my spec sheet as listed there (even though its in the order sheet), so he told me to call sales/returns.
I talked with sales/returns and they looked into it and said that indeed it wasn't built with the system even though it was on the order. The only options they gave me were to send back the machine and they will send me a new one or they can send me a USB Bluetooth hub. I asked about just getting my money back for that component and he said that wasn't really an option. I didn't really push it though because I don't mind sending it back since I'm not in a big rush and I'd rather just have it built in to begin with.
I'm sure this incident is a fluke, but still a good reminder for everyone to make sure that everything they ordered with the system is there before the 21 days are up! -
I'd ask for the part, and install it myself.

A novice question, but does the bluetooth give us access to over-the-air radio or something?
-
No, use google to search for "bluetooth accessories"

I was JUST about to return my T61 because I thought the bluetooth was missing as well. It was no where to be found. I looked everywhere, including the bios, device manager, etc.
Turns out, I had uninstalled a bunch of, what I considered unnecessary, IBM applications, and one was a hotkey application. Well, you NEED this hotkey application in order to hit Fn-F5 to turn on Bluetooth. I don't think there's any other way to turn it on.
