Hi folks, I've got a few BSODs today on my new T61. 3 or 4 simply restarted the computer automatically. Now I have a strange phenomenon: when going to a normal web site, http://www.time.gov and click on any state/time zone, then it will never go anywhere, just trying to load, and task manager shows "nonresponding", at the same time got Microsoft error message asking me to report this error to them. (it also said it's caused something to do with ATM, Adobe something, and I followed the instructions to download a small file. Said it should solve the problem, but apparently not. I simply can't click on that time web site.) I have XP Pro, thought safer than Vista, but now I'm baffled. What should I do if not reinstalling XP? Advice most appreciated!

Oh btw I just found Lenovo had set the clock on my laptop to China time zone, 12 hours forward! How about yours?

Seems as though its time for you to locate and use the Clean Install Guide. Check the sticky.

    Do you Turbo Memory?

Mine was set to to Pacific time. My first one was set to China time.

No, I don't have Turbo, just 1GB memory. I have a rather low config.

Even 1G should be ok, but a clean install will really help you. Make sure you install the Intel chipset drivers immediately after Vista, and also the Matrix controller driver (it's needed for your SATA drives.) If you forget the Matrix driver, you'll see more BSODs until you update it.

My Vista64 install has been fast & rock solid, and I have all the latest drivers. Vista bootup and shutdown are rather slow, at least least slower than XP, but I think that's just the nature of the beast. That's no biggie since I leave my machine on standby when I'm not around.

I have XP pro, if fresh install it has to be XP pro again (I don't want Vista). Seems a lot of hassle to do a clean install...

The non-responding problem (see my original post) seems to have to do with Firefox. It also involves Java. I tried to go to that web site and click on time zone using IE and it worked. After that, I went back to Firefox to try again and this time it went fine.

However it does crash when trying to install Core Temp. Would clean install solve the problem?

Firefox has an issue with Adobe Flash and multiple tabs with flash content. If the browser is left idle it consumes the CPU. However, I have noticed that if you use a ctrl+tab the intensity subsides and you can use it again. YMMV.

You must be right on, because when it crashed yesterday the MS error message did mention something involving Adobe. Thanks a lot.

When you say it consumes the CPU do you mean only when there is flash content, or always? Also I just tried ctro+tab, but all it does is to shift to the next tab.

This occurs hen multiple tabs have flash content, and the symptom is that Firefox is using 100% of the cpu cycles. After you tab through some of Firefoxs tabs it releases the cpu and becomes responsive. YMMV.

However I never had such problem on other PC's, some are not XP. ??
(when in non responding mode I can't do anything: can't go to any other tab)
