    Hello everyone,

I am looking at getting a T61, but have been debating which feature set to go with.

I *was* really considering the 14.1 inch w/wsxga+ but that screen is no longer available for the T61 according to the Lenovo site.

I was also considering the integrated vs the discrete graphics chip. I am leaning away from discrete in order to get better battery life and in the hope that I can break myself away from gaming a bit more. I've read the forums on integrated vs discrete...I'll have to really think about it some more

I want this machine mostly as a Linux box and to do coding. Has anyone seen the new 14.1 4:3 Thinkpad screens? Does anyone know if they are still off center like the wide screen version or are they centered. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but I am thinking it would drive me bonkers for an off centered screen.

I am currently using an Asus Z80K, which is a desktop replacement. I want something that is a bit lighter (this thing is probably close to 7.5 pounds) and better on the battery. I currently get about 1hr 15minutes on a good day. I pretty much have to have the wifi on an decent brightness.

If I get the Thinkpad I will also get the additional ultabay battery to extend battery life.

So, enough blabbering, bottom line, has anyone checked out the 4:3 and do you think it would be better for coding? I am not opposed to wide screen, my wife has an Asus with the 13.3 screen at 1280x800. I just don't think that size would be good for programming.

    Thanks,
    Howler9443

14.1" widescreen never had WSXGA+, only WXGA+. And that's only gone temporarily because of stock issues.

    Playmaker,

Thanks for the info. I would prefer the WXGA+ screen. If I may, what is the main use of your machine? Do you do any coding? How is the screen for that if you do?

The more I think about it the more I think I may go with integrated gfx instead of discreet. This is going to be a Linux only machine, so I don't plan on doing any gaming. So long as I can run Beryl and such I should be fine. The desktop Dell I have at work seems to run those things just fine and it has an integrated Intel chipset for graphics.

I hope they start offering the WXGA+ in the next few weeks as thats when I am planning my purchase.

    Thanks again!
