So its been about three days with my new T61, and I'm liking it more and more everyday. I need to figure out how to lower the CPU usage, as I always have 45-50 processes running?!?! The PC runs smoothly though (thanks to the 4GB of RAM) and I have no complaints. Here are some pics... Sorry for the poor quality.

what OS you running?
I did a fresh install of Ultimate and I'm running with 59 processes running -
running: AVG antivirus, mIRC, AIM, Winamp, Firefox, NHC, fingerprint software and other thinkpad related things.

and here is the performance tab
I'm actually getting occasional audio jitters in winamp (headphones connected). Quite odd. I have 2 GB DDR2.
got the audio driver installed through thinkvantage updateAttached Files:

thats a low amount of processes. I hvae a clean Ultimate intsall, and typically have about 68 processes running after boot up. That is with the programs I need booted at start up. I think the days of 20-30 processes are gone.
-
i got mine down to 62 processes. what i did was do a custom recovery of vista basic and then i use the anytime upgrade dvd to upgrade it to ultimate(not clean install)
Also, whenever i install something, i immediately goto MSconfig and uncheck whatever i see is new before i restart. -
45-50 processes on vista with 4 gigs of ram is really good. I ran a clean install and mine is running anywhere from 58-63 processes or more. For some reason I have duplicates of processes running though. Like taskeng.exe I have 3 processes of that running. All under different user names. System, Network, and then my vista user name.

What size is the HardDrive in this model?
-
Thanks for posting pictures. I was really curious to see how the 7cell battery looked.
-
I'm actually running xp for now, but I bought the 4GB knowing I'll give into vista some day. I was just curious cause on my custom built desktop I have 20-24 processes running.

I'm running a 100GB 7200rpm HD, I was wondering, does lenovo send out OS disks with their laptops? I got my T61, but there were no disks whatsoever.
-
no OS disks
there is a ~6GB partition on your hard drive that has the OS backup -
I've just received my T60 without the disk also.
-
Doesn't it make your right palm rest warm? -
Wow, congrats on your new T61.
If possible, do you mind letting us know what kind of battery life you're getting with your 7 cell? Also, some gaming benchmarks (i.e. CS:S, WoW, not 3Dmark) would be very much appreciated. -

if you organize your driver install it makes things much easier
but some installs take a while and lots of reboots.
find my post on page 10? in the Vista clean install thread. I did it in that order or close to it . Chipset first then video, then wireless...etc
i have full ultimate though...not upgrade -
I have the T60, not the T61, but I do have the 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus 7200.1 that, to my knowledge, Lenovo / IBM still uses for the T61s. It does get a little warm, especially when under constant activity, but when its idling you cannot really tell a difference when you have both hands resting on the laptop. It is fairly quiet, although because of the increased speed the idle noise is a little noticeable. One thing I have yet to figure out is determining why I always have periodic HDD activity - the HDD never spins down despite me setting that in the power manager. OH well, I dont really care - I plan on buying a 7K200 to put in my T60 soon anyway -
Yeah, the hard drive does get a little warm, but nmot enough to make it uncomfortable. I'll work on those benchmarks and try to get back to you guys. Also with the 7 Cell, and maximum battery settings (lowest brightness, no wireless/bluetooth) I get a good 3-3 1/2 hours. I haven't ran it to 0% yet, haven't had the chance.
New T61, lots of pics!
