Hey ya'll Just got a new thinkpad, And I dont think I'll ever buy another brand (hopefully lenovo continues the quality after they cant use the badge) My sig has my specs, best keyboard EVAR, better than typing on a desktop! Anywho, My question is, I saw the sticky for the utility to kill some of the bloat, but I was concerned if I cut some of it, I'd lose functionality of some of the toys (like the OSD, or fingerprint scanner stuff) But having 95 processes running all the time and using over a gig of ram idle is not ok with me, what should I do?

No sig showing up yet. This Vista? If so, follow the NBR Vista Tweaks thread, and that will clear some of that up. Enjoy! :D

Yeah I just received mine this week as well. I think it is great. The only complaint that I have is the screen isn't perfect as far as the brightness and viewing angles go. But still quite adequate. I ordered it with Vista Business, then wiped it and put a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, and it is definitely the fastest XP machine I've ever used.

Nope, everything works great, all the Lenovo/IBM software works. I would say all the software seems to work better than when I initially received it with Vista Business 32.

Edit: Updated to show Sig. If i were to reinstall would I not end up with all the same bloatware I already have, since the Only Disks I have are the ones that came with it? Being modified copies of Vista to start with (by the OEM that is).

Its actually not to bad, but then again, I'm young and haven't ever had seeing problems, it is small but I haven't noticed myself squinting at all or anything :D

Why did you get the Merom over the Penryn?

The T9300 is the same price and is 2.5GHz and has 6MB cache, instead of 2.4GHz, 4MB. Also it's 45nm instead of 65nm.

I didn't have an option, I didn't custom build my laptop, I ordered it preassembled (and got it in 2 days :D) If i had had the option I would have gotten the penryn, but this merom is a great processor, and If i ever get itchy feet for 100mhz more and 2 more mb of cache ill upgrade, but honestly the performance gain almost wouldn't be worth the investment, unless i were to oc the penryn since its 45nm and would run cooler OC'd

I didn't mean to say that it's bad, just assumed you ordered on the website like the majority of people do. Where did you order it preassembled?

I ordered it through my work, we have an employee purchase program where the item you order is taken out of your check over 6 months, and Buying directly from Lenovo would have been cheaper (by about $200) but without having a large sum of money like that, it was better to do it this way. And the website we order through is called Tech Data. They are based in Canada I believe, but have warehouses all over the United States

You can perform a custom factory install. That might decrease the amount of services started since it does allow you to remove most, if not all, of the preinstalled bloatware. Just hit the blue button at the ThinkPad splash screen at startup and continue from there. Make sure to read the directions carefully.
