    http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/batt/082009/LandingPage.html

    New one for August 2009

Affects the following models: ThinkPad T60/T61/R60/R61/X60/X61

New battery recall hitting several models of Thinkpads. Lenovo requires that you download their tool and run it to see if yours qualifies. I am hopeful the battery that died on me last year is included.

    Good Luck!

Of course, if you're not running Windows on it (like me), you're out of luck. Any suggestions other than reformatting the disk?

You may try just calling a Lenovo Service Rep. Running a different OS shouldn't exclude you but it won't let you use their preferred tool method.

The 6-cell battery on my R61 just recently died as well. Right now it blinks orange while saying that it's 100% charged. When I unplug the ac adapter, it just shuts off immediately. I'm hoping my battery is covered under this "recall", but the diagnostic tool wont work on my computer... I think due to the fact that I did a clean vista install and dont have any of the lenovo softwares.

Does anyone know if doing a clean install would affect the battery warranty at all?

Just take the battery out and check the FRU number to see if it is on the list of defective batteries.

Btw, my computer has a clean install and it worked for me under firefox...obviously I'm not effected, but just wanted to see

The FRU of my T61's battery is on the list, and the battery failed at about 10 months. However, the program still says it is okay, despite the fact that it gets about 10 minutes of life on a charge. I'm attempting to do a battery reset, but I doubt that will do much.

Why can't they not just list the numbers? Download a tool, install... come on. Smells like China-made spyware.

Mine is qualified, I download the file from the website ( not the link here), it tells me to fill out my address and will send me a replacement soon.

    If that's a joke, it's not funny.

Lucky you - you get a brand new battery ;)
