I have recently purchased the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (P/N: 45N6693). It came in a Lenovo typical brown cardboard box, sealed with the Lenovo tape (transparent with red ThinkPad logo on it). Upon inspection, I noticed that this original Lenovo tape had been cut through (box opened) and then re-sealed with an ordinary transparent tape (no ThinkPad logo). Across this newly applied tape used to re-seal the box, there was a white Lenovo Security Seal sticker.

Any idea why would Lenovo open an already sealed box and then re-seal it again? Was I sold a refurbished product? I have bought many accessories from Lenovo in the past and never experienced anything like this. Thanks for any insight you might have.

There was recently released new dock firmware, it is possible they updated the dock firmware before shipping it to you..

(and by recent, I mean like last couple of days recent)

Thanks everyone for their input. I guess a firmware upgrade sounds plausible given the fact that the dock was made in mid 2010. I've meticulously checked the dock and haven't found any signs of use, dismantle or repair. I was a bit uneasy at first, but now as the dock appears to be functioning correctly, I have calmed down. :)

i have heard several cases of the new dock shipped to Europe with box resealed. It could be someone put the wrong adapter in. Or that the dock was originally intended for other region with different adapter, and then there was a shortage in Europe, so the excess stock from different region had their box open, power adapter changed and then shipped to Europe.

This doesn't seem to be the case with my docking station, lead_org. There are different part numbers for every region and there are absolutely no signs of the product label on the box being tampered with (which would necessarily be the case if Lenovo re-labelled a dock intended for use in a different region).
