    Hey,

My new laptop accidentally was pushed off my bed and fell to the floor. It seems to have no obvious problems other than the main panel on the underside has partially popped out of its case. One side is still held in by screws but the half that just clips in is out by about a millimeter.

Should I just turn the laptop off, unscrew the whole panel and then pop it back in? Or could I damage something? It doesn't seem to be causing any real problems but it's annoying and I feel like it's one of those things that could affect my laptop's long term longevity.

OMG You killed your laptop! :)

Seriously, thats a bummer.. My suggestion would be to turn it off, take the panel completely off and put it back in the way it should be. With the panel off, try to see if anything on the inside seems broken, misplaced or damaged. If so, fix it or get it fixed.

Problem is, even if everything seems to be in order there could be some damage that will affect your laptops lifetime in the long run..

Run the PC Doctor diagnostics and see if anything fails.

It's quite possible that the panel just got displaced by the impact. I would certainly try to refit it correctly because this will reveal if anything is broken. You should also check the HDD for damage because, if it was spinning, then the heads could damage the surface (unless the computer has a sensor to detect the movement and automatically park the heads).

Just to elaborate, my friend bought a new pair of skis, hit a big rock the next day at high speed, and AMEX paid for the major repair.

Pretty sure the Edges also have Active Protection System.

Run HD Tune's (or an alternative) surface error test anyway.
