Trackpoint buttons.
-
The ThinkPad E455 is launching in Sept/Oct 2014. It will not have the dedicated TrackPoint buttons, although the ThinkPad E545 had them.
-
I wanted to buy new Lenovo Laptop.
To my great displeasure, i found out, they removed trackpoint buttons. As i use only trackpoint, this is dealbreaker.
A was ready to spend my bucks for new laptop with IPS display, but what you want to do with laptop, that (even though) has nice specs, you can not work on it.
I'm now thinking after roughly 12 yrs of using ThinkPads to move to HP. There are some new models using Kauri that i got interested in - and mainly, it has trackpoint with actuall buttons. -
Lenovo will never remove the trackpoint, don't be stupid.
-
-
Are you sure the the trackpoint buttons will be back?
I'm sure to wait if it is the case. -
It has already been established that the trackpoint buttons will be coming back after all the negative feedback lenovo received.

You'd think if they'd have tested all these changes with customers they'd have realized this was not the way to go.

I keep seeing positive reviews of the new Chiclet/Apple style keyboards, but I remain unconvinced. Apple invented this for no other reason than they look stylish, and now everyone has to copy them to compete in the market. So much for helping to move the computer forward.

Well that's really not a surprising statement in the last...while Macs have many strong points keyboard is definitely not one of them...at least not on the newer models.
The feel of the *30 series keyboard is OK and it's likely the best island keyboard around but the layout...never. Ever. In. This. House. -
I have an x41, x61, x201 and an x230 (with an x220 keyboard). The x201 keyboard is by farrrrrr the best keyword to type on. I dont care what anyone says- the chiclet was like pressing buttons on a $10 office calculator.
I would like to see x201 keyboard, with 13.3 inch screen, IPS, TWO slots for memory and non-ULV processor (if they want ULV bring out a x250s).
Unfortunately it'll be a crap keyboard- which is why I wont be buying anymore Lenovo laptops. -

Gentleman, I have a decision to make and I need information, conjecutre, specualtion, etc. (what ever you have)
I can get a new laptop for my work. They are offering a X240, which I could get in a week.
But I'm debating whether I should wait for the X250. But then, I don't have much faith in Lenovo to make good decisions as far as design of the new X250. Since X240 was a major redesign, the X250 will probably not deviate too far.
Are we looking at a half year or longer for the X250 to be released? If so I might as well get the X240 and bear with it for a few years until I can get an upgrade.
What do you guys think?
(I'm currently on a T420 with 8RAM 128SSD 2.7Ghz) -

Welcome to the forum!
Unless you need a FHD screen on an ultraportable or work in the set of circumstances where battery life is everything, I don't see why you'd want to replace a T420 with a X240...
My $0.02 only... -
The X250 will be mostly identical to the X240. Pro's of the X250 however will include dedicated trackpoint buttons, an even better battery life and perhaps even Core M, which would mean that the X250 would be fanless. The latter is just speculation though.

I searched lot of stores for this model, I cant find. Finally I bought ideapad.

Thanks for the welcome ladies and gentlemen!
A side of me does want to keep the T420. Actually we have a choice between T440p and the X240. I travel alot so the weight of the device was huge factor in the decision. And also the T440p is back logged in our supply chain for a few months.
I will just bite the bullet and get a X240. Hopefully I won't put a bullet in my brain for making a bad decision with the X240.
Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it. -
Might not be relevant, but I noticed three Machine Types listed at ThinkPad T450 > Lenovo Quick Pick. Hopefully more will be revealed ASAP.

More importantly, If you look there, you also will find this: ThinkPad W550s > Lenovo Quick Pick

Why would they bring back the trakcpoint buttons on the X250?! We have the X240 and X1 at work and imo the new trackpad works best on the X240. God damnit.
Forget the buttons and improve the precision on the trackpads instead because that is what really sucks about them. -
-
Based on the naming, sounds like there's going to be multiple versions of the W550. The S version being a thin and light model like their 14" thinkpad lines, if it's following the same naming scheme.

Would be interesting if there is any news on the whole 3:2 screen sizes, I would love to see a 14'' 3:2 model, with dedicated trackpoint buttons!

So is the best guess for a launch CES 2015?
-
Its been a month late since Lenovo announced the last thinkpads. I can't find any information about any specs or changes to the new line up. I wish they'd release a pic of the new design language or something. Any know any rumours at a all about whats going on? Broadwell's out already...
-
-
They're postponed due to problems on Intel's (Broadwell Chip) side. Intelâs Broadwell Delay: Should You Freak Out? there is some details.
-
Sadwe get the details on the Broadwell-powered Yogas, but still nothing on our beloved (soon to be less beloved?) ThinkPads.
-
Broadwell is not out yet - with the exception of Core M of course - so its no wonder we have no details yet on any Broadwell ThinkPad other than the Helix 2 and the Yoga 14 (which will be released with Haswell initially).
Originally, Broadwell was expected to be out mid 2014.BinkNR likes this. -

Only the Quad-Core machines (T550p/T450p/W550/L550) will be that late. Dual-Core ULV is still going to released early 2015. The main part of the new lineup should be announced shortly before, on or after CES (considering CES is an important show for Lenovo, my guess is that they will be announced on CES Unveiled on January 4).

Colleagues, my 2 cents here...
1. E455 and E555 available there in Japan for a while now -- these are new developments based on AMD APUs

2. In spite of being re-colored from think-black to more-appleish-grey, these laptops sport precisely the same keyboard/trackpoint/touchpad as the Haswell-based generation of ThinkPads: same layout, same large buttonless trackpad, same numpad for 15-inchers -- see figures with E455 (grey) and E440 (black), E555 (grey) and E540 (black)
3. Looks like OneLink ditches out the classic docking port (still have to check T-series to be 100% sure about that)
-
These are low-end systems. They are not meant for Enterprise or ThinkPad Loyalists...
My thoughts on this:
1. I don´t think Lenovo will go back on their decision to include numberpads on 15" systems. They rather have a non-centered keyboard than all the wasted space beside the keyboard.
2. Lenovos general redesign won´t be reverted (new color etc.). They will revert back to the X1 Carbon UltraNav setup though (on T/W/X), since the negative feedback. This is confirmed, and the Helix 2 with dedicated TrackPoint-buttons is already announced. Lower end systems (E / S / Yoga = former Edge branded) might stay with the All-in-One ClickPad
3. OneLink won´t replace the classic dock-port. It remains on E/Yoga/X1 Carbon, T/W/X/L will stay with the normal mechanical dock for this generation.
These are my thoughts on that. One thing that might carry over from E455/E555 to T/W/X however: The new position of Lenovo Logo on the lid and new color for the logo (simply black).
Also, Lenovo might go back to the old way to swap keyboards, if you look at the E455/E55 and Yoga 14 HMMs.phamhlam likes this. -
Any information on whether or not they're going to continue with the split internal/external battery? Not a deal breaker but I was never really into that idea.
I really want to see the new X250 and T450s along with their specs... I hope they come with 2 actual RAM slots this time. I'm also interested in the X1 Carbon but chances are that will have soldered RAM, which is a deal breaker for me. -
All the new models are attracting...
-
Would it also be a deal-breaker for you if you could get it pre-configured with a ton of RAM, like 32Gig? -
I bought my X201 with 2gb, upgraded to 4gb by adding an extra stick, and then to 8gb when I needed the extra memory. It would have probably cost hundreds of dollars to configure it with 8gb at the beginning, and I wouldn't even have the spares left over to transfer into an older laptop.
So soldered memory is a deal breaker. Single memory slot I could settle for if I was desperate and had no other reasonable option. Modularity is one of the key features of a business laptop. Otherwise why are we buying Thinkpads when we could be buying Asus or Apple or Ideapad even?
