so the new X250 isn't carbon fiber and magnesium anymore, but glass fiber -- sucks, seems lenovo is cutting costs on corners on the fundamental parts of Thinkpads. Very lame. Fortunately though, the T450S is carbon and magnesium. I was contemplating on whether to get the X250 or T450s, but it seems Lenovo made the decision for me. T450s will be replacing my trusty X300.

X240 was Glass fiber as well and better build than the Magnesium X220/X230 models in certain aspects. T450s is slightly more premium, but X250 should be a very, very good build as well. Besides, there is a Magnesium roll-cage inside.

Ughh, it's frustrating that you can't get a 14" with discrete graphics and a docking connector. Is it really that hard to design? That's what my T410 has.

As posted by an user earlier: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

Shows that the T450s will have a optional discrete 940m graphics card, but it also shows that it will have longer battery life under this configuration? How would that work?

If it indeed consumes less power with a discrete graphics card, does that also mean that the heat buildup will be lower under normal office usage? I really liked how on the T440s the fan was practically off most of the time with TPFanControl, would it be the same here? I guess only time will tell.

A 940M is a VERY nice addition though.

ErasmusStudent, the discrete graphics card will most likely be Europe and Asia only, T440s had discrete optional also in Europe, but the States didn't get that imo.

Why the F do they region lock the discrete graphics option? There's no point, unless they are certain discrete graphics won't sell at all in the U.S. If it truly does come with a 940m the t450s would be my perfect laptop, I'll import one myself from europe if I have to.

edit: Found some info on the unreleased 940m. Apparently its not even a GT model and is pretty weak.
    http://videocardz.com/54394/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960m-gtx-950m-and-940m-soon-in-laptops

The spec sheet also says the discrete graphics models somehow have a couple minutes more battery life...

    I live in Europe.

Its similar to the 840m, which will mean that it can do what I need it to without the large power draw in normal usage (seemingly) and heat. Its good for light gaming too. Good choice for a work laptop.

Are you referring to the X240? If yes, are you sure about that?

Strange decision, the T450 is better built than the L450 (in term of materials) but lack the Full HD IPS screen that the L450 have????

    Info from tabook.

Purely a marketing/sales decision to help separate it from the T450s. I suspect you will be able to manually install a FHD IPS screen yourself, just like you were able to with the T440.

Yes, I am. There is a Magnesium alloy structure frame inside, directly bonded to the palmrest. See this picture taken from a disassembly video:

The Canadian site for the T450 seems to be partially live.

    http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t450/#tab-tech_specs

What's interesting, is under Specs it lists.....
    Graphics
    • Integrated with docking
    • Discrete with docking
I didn't think the discrete model had a docking port.

Update: It says the same thing for the T450s, so it's probably just an error.

Where are the reviews on this one? Looks like the buttons are back which is good. Does it have Wacom?

The T450, T450s & T550 are live on both the US and Canadian sites. Nothing on the L450 (the one I'm waiting for).

Thanks—it was “Loading” for me indefinitely when I tried it, but, while it took a while, it worked for me this time.

They are clearly having issues. The first time I tried it today it took forever, so I just canceled out. I tried it again a second time and it worked, although also slow. If they don't put the cr%p screens in the T450s like the T440s I might try one again (I see the part numbers have changed), or most likely wait for the T450p with hopefully 16GB of memory and Windows 10 if it is released later on, so I could see how bad they messed up with the latest T series laptops in the meantime. I couldn't get them to replace the screen on my T440 with the AUO one, I absolutely hated Windows 8, and the text was so tiny it was ridiculous with no help from font scaling which was terrible, so I returned it. Otherwise I liked the laptop. Since I use a mouse 90% of the time I really didn't care about the trackpad/trackpoint physical buttons. but that is a nice addition.
