    Hey everyone,

I'm an old lenovo thinkpad user, I've owned a few thinkpads since the my first X61, and really like the build quality of the brand. Our latest purchase was an S2 Thinkpad Yoga 14, about 2 years ago, and we were considering the newer X1 as a replacement, or second machine.

Specifically, we wanted to purchase one spec'd with the i7-6500u, OLED pannel, 512 ssd and 8gb ram.

I had a few questions for owners of both that may help us make a decision. I wanted to sum up a few complaints about our S2 and see if anyone has the same feelings on the yoga X1.

-First, we do have issues with typing on the S2 yoga and hitting the track pad. For whatever reason, lenovo doesn't have a good feature to recognize not to hit the mouse when you are typing. My Hp has no issue with this, without having to turn the mouse off.

-Second, we don't necessarily like the S2's trackpad where the whole pad is a mouse button. We both prefer the traditional pad where you can just double tap for a mouse click.

-Lastly, we had a number of issues with the batter/charging on the S2 yoga. It turns out, there is a small switch labeled "Switch 2" that disconnects the battery when the rear cover is off. However, if malfunctions and trips the battery when the laptop is moved around slightly or bumped. Went through a lot to get it fixed finally.

We really don't have any performance issues with the current machine, it is getting slower, but suffices for office work and we have a better machine for anything needing more power, mostly CAD or 3d rendering software. Probably one of the biggest hooks is the OLED in the Thinkpad X1 Yoga, would be an interesting option to have.

Well, ended up going ahead and getting it on a good deal. We did not buy the OLED screen version due to its premium cost. Ended up with a wqhd matte Ips pannel instead, so still 2560x1440. We did stick with the i7, 8gb ram, and added a 256gb pci-e Samsung 960 evo ssd instead of the oe drive. Figured I'd answer my own questions about this switch to help anyone else out.

Overall, my impression of the Gen 1 Thinkpad X1 yoga are very positive. They really fixed all the issues we had with our older version, and a lot of the new features are really appreciated, reminiscent of options on my HP.

    Some other notes:
-Really appreciate the finger print reader, as I don't enjoy having to use 50 passwords everyday. always used it on my HP to store less sensitive passwords
-very thin/light, due to soldered ram, m.2/pci-e SSD, and other improvements.
-Has some flex in the chassis due to this, if you grab it from 1/4 of the chassis it noticeably bends, so take care.
