Are we ever gonna see this again?

    <object width='425' height='350'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TBCLhfWekDQ"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TBCLhfWekDQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width='425' height='350'></embed></object>

A newer version with this keyboard will be a big hit? Lenovo, please?

I remember probably a "newer" version of that, where when you opened the laptop, it was split *literally* in half, and both halves came up and popped out to the left and right and snapped together. Then when you close the lid they overlap one another and sink back in.

It probably had a high failure rate.

it looks really cool, but I gather from opening and closing on a daily basis, it doesn't last too long due to more mechanical moving parts. but thats looks REALLY cool.

My moms didnt pop up it swiveled counter clockwise into place. Worked great for years. She only ditched it when she got a really great deal on a T41 ? I think. Now my uncle has it.

A good friend of mine had one of those. If memory serves it worked really well and was well-engineered and reliable, but they were too costly to manufacture to be cost-effective for IBM. Also, remember this thing was made with a 10.4" screen. Now that screens are larger it's easy to make a compact laptop with a nicely-sized keyboard without burdening it with the added complexity and thickness created by a collapsing keyboard.

yeah but it certainly would be nice to add a number pad to a 14 or even a 15in laptop.
