Ok as the new Thinkpads are now available in US/AUS/etc I called Lenovo UK to ask when we should expect them in the UK as they have not been displayed on the UK website yet.

Spoke to one of the sales people and he was adamant that there is no plans to release any until DECEMBER!!?! I find this very hard to believe - anyone have any information on this or any contacts in UK Lenovo that they could poke for verification?

(typical ;) After much deliberation I had decided on an X230T and was about to press the trigger today - now they might not be here for another 6 months?? I can't see how this can be true)

if you have friends in US, just ask them to buy for you and then ship to you.

Well it's still a public holiday in the UK today so I would give it a day before checking the site out. Maybe the person who suppose to be updating the website is lining the streets with an Union Jack hat at the moment!

panic over, they have just updated the new products page on the UK site to include the new models and they are listed with a June release.

not that I'm impatient (heh :)) but I've called Lenovo UK three separate times now and got three different answers...

    1) Knew about the product lines and understood that they were out in US, etc - but was very sure they would not be out in the UK until December.

    2) Knew about the product lines and assured me they would be out before the end of the month

    3) Knew about the product lines and told me that Lenovo's official sales (aka Digital (Fail)River in the UK) would be the last to get them and would be early July, while the resellers would get them end of June.

    /sigh :) Nothing like a clear message.

None of the ideapad laptops (including s series) are available in the UK via the lenovo official website. You can pick up other ideapads elsewhere in the UK but Im yet to see the s430.

The E530 was definately on the UK site last night (and it still lists that the edge options go up to 3d gen core i7 and has the 530 specs pdf at the bottom of the page) however its dissapeared from the shop...

The S430 is not an IdeaPad ;) It is a ThinkPad Edge.

Ahhh so confusing! Haha. Thought you were talking about the S series laptops. I really cant keep up with the model numbers! Official website has no details on the s430 no... All i see is lots of Es.

That's a really poor sales effort from Lenovo. If they had updated their web pages sooner I might have ordered a T430s rather than surfing around and finding this...

    Z Series : VAIO & computing : Sony

yes - the new Z23 is currently my backup option. I had the Z11 (actually typing on it atm :)) and it is an amazing machine... however I'm not sure I would consider the Z23 as a real option considering:

    1) everything is soldered to the board: HD, Proc... even the RAM! So upgrades will be non-existent.
    2) £1150 to go from 128GB SSD to 512GB SSD? Kiss my bottom Sony!
    3) There is no real eGPU option (unless using a metal cutter to slice the chassis and expose the miniPCI sounds like a good option to you :)) as the PMD is beyond rubbish.
    4) No touch screen...

    compare that to the X230T

    1) Able to change HD and RAM... not sure on the Proc.
    2) Buy your own HD, I'm looking at a 7mm 512GB SSD for £420
    3) X230T has ExpressCard V2.0 so eGPU will be very much possible - next best thing to Thunderbolt which isn't likely to be stable for another 6 months anyway (I'll happily be proved wrong ofc, lets meet back in 6 months).
    4) Touch Screen && Win8 = win

    Just my 2cents.

p.s - Sony, make another Z series like the Z11 with current hardware and I'll buy it, but the Z23 is imo slightly gimped :( shame.

^^What? The new Z series cannot be upgraded aftermarket, not even the RAM? 16GB RAM is the minimum I'm asking for (due to my work requirements)

hey guys - for those people interested, Hemini have many of the new Thinkpads in stock and ready to order in the UK :)

Sadly the i7 version of the X230T is not available, but they have i5 versions. They also have both i7/i5 editions of the X230.

(Hemini is a sales partner of Lenovo, when I called Lenovo direct they said to call Hemini and see if they had stock as they normally get stock first)
