Hello fellow W500 owners, this is the BIOS that we are waiting for that will solve the ATI FireGL misidentification problem plus a few other fixes!

The BIOS is not officially out yet, but here are the links!

CCC reads the GPU as ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 now!

I upgraded mine W500 to the newest 1.19, it works great! recognized as V5700 as well, but no change on performance...
Really wish the video card is better than my old T61p.

I agree that the performance is not as great as that advertised. I guess 'Work-notebooks' with Nvidia based GPUs are much better than ATI based GPUs.

I'm sure Lenovo is going to upgrade the current W500 GPUs to something else in a year's time.

I've upgraded mine to 1.18 (and finally it reads the V5700 fine) but I still don't have workstation option in CCC (last option in the picture)!?

You have to have XP as your OS and installing the XP video driver to get the workstation option in CCC. Right now the workstation option is also empty for the CCC. I would imagine it will have something in them once you install the ISV certified drivers.

It's to allow 3D CAD software tools to enable graphical functionalities pertaining to FireGL GPUs.

For example on Solidworks, you can specify your part with a material model like brass for example and it will be rendered in real time with 'realview'. It's hardware based so it needs to identify the GPU as a FireGL card before you can use 'realview'.

check your GPU Z, if the unified shaders says 120 then its not the update u require. a proper one should say 320 unified shaders. at least then the other information on it should be correct and ill be certain the performance will increase but there is no update that i no that will correct this. maybe jan 09 should be corrected. depends if ati are aware that the drivers are incorrect on the w500
