Hey Chk! Quick question. How would you rate the screen of our W500?? I want to upgrade my T60p (the one in my sig), and get a W700/ds. Speaking of which, does Lenovo ever accept more than one e-coupon??

I've had nothing but Thinnkpads, but the newer screens haven't been IPS for a while, so I was wondering how good/bad the new LCD's were.

    Thanks!! :)

I have the Samsung 15.4" WSXGA+ TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight 1650x1050, its pretty dim compared to my old hp and Lenovo t61p, but other than that the colors are really nice for an LCD.

No, lenovo only takes one e-coupon

You can't compare apples and oranges. IPS screens also use CCFL backlight. W500 uses TN screens and CCFL backlight, which are far inferior.

Right. I hear you. I don't know the different specs with a few exceptions, but what I do know is that IPS, and most especially S-IPS, is the very best.

You sound like you know your stuff. Can you tell me if there are ANY laptop manufacturers out there that DO have IPS.

I spent quite a bunch of money, i.e. upgraded T2600 (32-bit only) to T7400 (64-bit CPU). I also put a mini-PCIe for WiFi N in that baby, so it can hang with the big boys for maybe another year.

My current T60p is my 12th Thinkpad, in TEN years!! I love 'em.

However, I will jump ship if ANY OTHER company makes 15", 17", 15.4", etc. notebooks with IPS screens?

The X61t was the last ThinkPad with an IPS screen. The X200t uses a PVA panel, which is very good, but not IPS. I suggest you hang onto your T60p, it's the last of the last unless Lenovo does something very unexpected. Probably the closest thing to it right now would be the WUXGA on the W700, but that's not a very portable notebook.
