    Hello everyone.
I just recently opened the box of my brand new WUXGA W500, all is well except for this one issue...
I know not to expect a lot in the brightness field of the WUXGA or maybe even the perfectly even distribution of brightness throughout it (from this one review of it I read).
There is a fairly significant drop of brightness in the bottom right corner of the screen.
I can live with it but I also expect a little bit more considering the amount of money I put into this laptop.
is it worth sending back to Lenovo? Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their W500s? from users exeprience, what's the average time it takes Lenovo to fix and ship it back(especially to the NY area)?

Will post images later if helpful, let me know guys.

    Thanks!

I have a WUXGA W500, and have no problem of variable brightness. Mine is just a wonderful screen. Perhaps you should contact Lenovo support? I would. Can you upgrade your support to on-site, so Lenovo can just come round and replace the screen wherever you are? If you can, it is a cheap upgrade to return-to-base support. Worth every cent.

When I first got my W500, it had that exact issue, even in the bottom right corner. It was clearly a lot darker than the rest of the screen. So I made my desktop background a plain white gif (it made the dark spot really obvious), moved the taskbar to the top of the screen (even more obvious), and sent it back under warranty. A few days later it came back with a different screen. There's still a very very slight dimness in that area, but it's far from what it was so I'm okay with it. Plus my taskbar's dark and always there so I don't notice it.

As far as time away, I'm in St. Louis, MO, and I'd say it was out of my hands for about 4 or 5 days, tops. I think the warranty center is in Georgia.

Support center is in GA but they actually do the warranty care at another 3rd party in AZ...i think.

    Thanks for your replies everyone!
I'm attaching an image to this post so you can see the magnitude of this issue, I personally think it's bad enough.
Lifesizepotato, Could you please tell me how it compares to the original screen you got with your W500 and the newer one? I also have some drop in brightness in the bottom left side of the screen but is pretty insignificant.

I also wouldn't have to pay for shipping right? [IMG]

That's almost exactly how mine looked! I guess I know what they ended up doing with the screen they took out of mine. ;)

And you're right, you don't pay for shipping. I called them one morning, the next day at 10 a.m. an empty box arrived at my door. I packed it up in the prepaid box, sent it out and then just a few days later I had it back. Really painless, and free.

Edit: As far as comparing it to the new one, the new one is much better. I could only see the very slight dimness on the new panel when I kept the background pure white and I was actively looking for it. Otherwise, I honestly don't know it's there, it's very subtle. At any rate, it's good enough that I didn't feel like sending it back in.

    Thanks!
Had a word with one of their costumer service reps today and I should be expecting the mail in box tomorrow, I hope it comes back soon.
Also mentioned a word about the very clanky and flexy keyboard , I hope they can do something about that as well. This is my 4th and most expensive Thinkpad, the keyboard is not on par with the others and quite disappointing...

Again, I think you had bad luck. :( I have experienced some horrendous keyboards on these things. But the one I received is a delight. Can't figure...

My corner is dim too! Does that mean I got your screen?
    Is this a common problem?

I've since noticed that both my lower corners are still dimmer than the rest of the screen but in a perfectly acceptable way, my personal experience with both the original and replacement display along with lifesizepotatos same scenario with both his displays, kind of show something about how common this problem may be.
The people who think they have a perfect WUXGA display might just have one like both lifesizepotato and my replacement displays, which may still have the problem but you wouldn't normally notice it unless you were looking for it.

Unless your display is as bad as how mine was originally, I'd think twice about sending your W500 for repair ( look up my latest follow up thread concerning the quality of service at the repair lab), Which I've yet attended to take care of due to large volume of work...

well, on mine, the area affected is about the size of a dime. it looks just like the picture you posted.
and i can notice it because i dock my bar on the left side of my screen.

yeah, i've read about the repair centers. i was sent a box to ship in as well, but i don't believe i'll be doing so. instead i'll take it personally to a service repair center, and hope it comes out better.

I have that same problem on my T500. Didn't notice it until now though... Oh well, ignorance is bliss

That would be the smarter thing to do.
I'm going to do the same to replace my damage panels and faceplate.
Make sure you also mention it to them as you drop it off, that you are sensitive about the aesthetics of your laptop (if it's a new one and still in mint condition of course).
