It seems like the new bios ver 1.19/1.18 might solve the ATI V5700 identification issue.

Here's the link to the new bios (japanese?):

Can this japanese bios be used in EN systems?

I was able to find this English equivalent but don't know if it'll actually fix your issue. Can you let us know?

Unfortunately the site that you have referenced links to BIOS ver. 1.15 for the W500. My W500 shipped with BIOS ver. 1.16 and BIOS from the english site won't solve the ATI V5700 identification problem.

Yes, you can use it on your W500.
Please let us know if this BIOS fix the problem! -
Version: 1.19-1.01
Release Date: 2008/10/24 -
Just downloaded and installed the new 1.19 BIOS for my Lenovo w500 over 1.18. No change in the device ID, still 9591 as seen in GPU-Z and Catalyst Control Center.

Anyone actually call and complain to Lenovo? I would be interesting in hearing what they have to say.
