    Hi,

After some looking around (and getting some advice here as well), I went and bought a Lenovo ThinkPad W500.
I got it about a week ago and I had some "problems" with it.
I had a very flexy keyboard. After reading about it, I called Lenovo and they sent me a new one. I was allowed to replace it myself they said, so no problem there. That is now perfectly OK, it types very well now. I was somewhat amazed that they still delivered them with the flexy keyboard, as I read they had replaced those.

However, the second thing I noticed when I got it, is the following: at the front of the laptop, there is the connector for a headset and microphone. Just in between these 2 connectors, it seems as if the palmrest-piece (the part of the cover) is not completely attached to the bottom. There's a very small clicking when I press. This was with the old keyboard as well. When I put some pressure (only light) with my wrist above that point, next to the touchpad, it squeaks lightly.
When I put my fingernail in between the 2 parts, it's OK, no more squeaky sounds anymore.
Is something wrong with the build of my machine or is this normal? I have a ThinkPlus at home service, I'm wondering if this is something Lenovo should come and fix.

Finally, I was expecting this machine to be very solid. Still, there are some things that don't seem too solid:
-When I have the laptop in my hands, the plastic under the UltraBay area bends somehow. Is this normal?
-When the lid is closed, it's not 100% tightly closed, meaning when I press slightly on the closed cover, it can be pushed closed to the machine itself. Again, is this only with my machine?

Thanks in advance for the responses, I really hope to get some help here.

I had to replace my keyboard as well, the new one is awesome...just like old times :)

I have no gap/click on the left side by the headphone port or on the left palmrest at all, very solid there.

I do have flex in the plastic under the ultrabay, but never noticed until now, so not a big deal to me.

I have a little play in the lid when closed, again, never noticed as they all do that to some extent. It's a soft close self locking with one slide switch lid, love the design. I think that's normal if your gap is minimal.

I've owned many, many Thinkpads and this W500 is as well built as any of them. I've been extremely happy with mine.

You may want to have them fix yours where the headphone ports are, that clicking would drive me nuts. I've always had very good service from Lenovo, never had the onsite, always had to send it in or have them send me the part. You may just need to replace the palmrest which you might be able to do yourself.

Palm rest is user replaceable as well.

Great, thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I'll call them to ask for a new palm rest part. It is indeed user replaceable, I removed it when placing the new keyboard.

    Thanks again.
