I have a T61 that apparently has a bad battery. It shows 100% charge but the batter light constantly flashes and if you unplug the power cord it goes dead.

My question is will after market batteries work or do they have something in the battery that lets the computer know if it is a genuine lenovo and others won't work?

    Thanks,
    Rut

Of course they'll work, but experience with them says they won't last as long in terms of battery life or longevity.

From my experience, the T61 battery (OEM) has a chip telling the computer its FRU (mine is 42T5264, you could find yours in the Lenovo Battery Manager "Battery" tab in "Switch to: Advanced".

No, I would completely avoid all 3rd party batteries. Go on Ebay and find a genuine/OEM battery and find a seller who has tons of feedback.
