    Will upgrading to a later general chipset driver (Intel) be better than using Lenovo's older specific chipset for a particular laptop model or will it pose problems?

    It doesn't hurt to try. You could always roll back if you run into issues. I have read that some users say that installing the Intel drivers allows for more configuration options.

    I use the latest from Intel in both XP and Vista, so far no problem at all, and the latest version also fixed many bugs from the previous versions.
