    Hi everyone,

I ordered an X200s two days ago and won't get it for another two weeks. I noticed there is a new coupon out that gives 20% off, more than the coupon I used before. Since I haven't gotten the laptop yet, I was wondering if I can call in to get the new coupon applied? I would save another $70 if I can use the new coupon.

    Thanks!

    Thanks AlphaKenny1,

I called in and was asked to create a quote with the new price. They gave me an option of waiting until I get the original order shipped/received, then call in to price match with the quote or cancel the original order and convert the quote over to an order. I did the latter since I don't want to be bothered with calling in to get the price quote; since they have an option of not honoring it. The shipping date is only extended by 3 days... I will get it in two and a half week.

I feel strange giving my credit card information over the phone... I've never done it before. I only order online in the past though.

    Cheers,
    Gnimble

By the way, I saved $75 with the new coupon; now I can use that savings to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 4GB from newegg.

    Cheers,
    Ben

The X200s is an awesome laptop, I'll never forget the first time I was handed one and thought it was a hollow prototype it was so light.

Mind me asking how much you ended up getting it for? Oh, and some people still won't buy over the Internet and prefer to give a live person their CC#, I'm like you though, it creeps me out reading it to someone over the phone, I view that as far more risky that transferring it securely over the Internet to another machine.

I'd have to say the X200s is probably the first lust worthy ThinkPad since Lenovo took over. The X300 was good too, but too expensive for your average Jane or Joe.

I can't wait to get mine. It is pushed back by 3 days now; I don't mind since I'm saving over $70 with the new coupon.

Sheesh... it feels so long already. It is the same feeling I have when I was waiting for the HP DV4T... it took forever to come. Once it is in my hands, I salivate over it for a few weeks. Now I don't think about it anymore. New toys coming I guessed.

That's the same feeling I have... I don't feel comfortable at all giving someone my credit card number. But I feel quite ok entering them on the Internet (through a secure server). I use paypal now too with an electronic token that changes each time you use it. I feel safer using that still.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Zaz,

I'll hang around definitely. I did the same in the HP forum while waiting and proceed to read all the posts in the large thread on the HP DV4T computer. It took three whole days to go through and digest them all. And before that, I was in the Asus 1000X forum. Lets just say if I lose my job, I'm toasted.

    Cheers,

I have a question regarding the fingerprint reader on the X200s. It appears to be sitting where the palm is resting. Does this trigger the reader each time you put your palm down to rest on the palm rest? My HP laptop's reader is to the right but sometimes I would trigger it too... kind of annoying when I do.

Great news! The laptop is shipped! Had I known it would be shipped the next day, I would have opted to pay $10 extra for the two days delivery. I can't wait! I won't get the tracking number until tomorrow.

Because it is coming earlier than expected, I sped up my research of hard drives and RAM; and bought the cheapest ones I found. I just ordered from newegg.com the following:

    (1) Hitachi Travelstar 5k500.B 500GB 5400RPM 2.5" hard drive (the greenest hard drive out there... uses 1.4w for read/write while most others use over 2w, and I hope it will run cooler too) for $90 (will be $80 after a $10 rebate)

    (2) A-Data 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204pin DDR3 1066Mhz sodimm for $52

Now lets see which one will arrive first...

(something's nagging me from the back of my mind... I'm wondering if they are shipping out a returned system instead, because this is way too fast...)

    Warmest regards,
    Gnimble

Possible a stupid question for you all, but the X200s does not come with an optical drive correct ? So, true it's a VERY portable computer, what if you want to run a DVD/CD/document CD, and your on the road away from your ultra bay dock? Or, do most of you not even use CD's/DVDs with your X200 ??
I'm thinking about getting a super slim laptop myself (I currently have the T61), but my optical drive is a BIG concern (I'm always using it to watch movies, business related disks, etc.).
    Thanks for any answers !

That's right. The x200s does not come with an optical drive. You have to use an external one or buy an ultrabase with one. Slimline optical DVD burners are pretty cheap right now, around $60. If you need access to your documents or read CD/DVDs, I suggest you invest in one. Go to places like newegg.com and search "external dvd burner". Larger external burners are cheaper but the slim ones (very compact and use USB power) go for as low as $65 shipped (plus applicable taxes).

It is annoying to watch a dvd movie with an external player attached. If that is ok with you, then the x200 series would be good. If not, I suggest you look for other ultraportables with one. Many comes with them built in.

Gah! I knew it was too good to be true. I cancelled the first order yesterday morning and what did they do today? They charged my credit card and shipped it! I should have been suspicious when I didn't get an order cancellation confirmation. Now I have two orders in my hands. I'll give them a ring tomorrow morning to see if I can just cancel the second order, keep the one that is coming and get the price match from the second order. What a mess...

    grumble grumble...

    @MikesDell

With your use (watching DVD's, using CD's for documents and so on – even on the road) I wouldn't even consider the X200/s or any other without an inbuilt optical drive. It's way too much hassle having to use an external drive like that, and it forgoes the entire purpose of such a computer.
If you still want lightweight and all-in-one, perhaps the X300/x301 is worth a look for you?

I will propably need to buy an external slim drive myself, but that is only for two things: I am swtiching, and have no idea how to do the recovery disks to a usb stick, so I will need that drive both for the burning and the reinstall at some point). Secondly, I will be using it to rip my CD's from time to time (i.e. when I buy music from time to time), but I won't be using it on a daily or even monthly basis. It's all flash, harddiscs, and so on for me.

Not a problem at all Mike. Levono seems to release a lot of coupons, keep a look out for them and you'll be able to get your X300/X301 in no time. Good luck on the wait.

Just an update on the status...

I called in Thursday morning to fix the problem with the cancelled order in the ship state. The customer service guy told me that he can do a price match on the cancelled order that was shipped and cancel the order that is currently being built. I agreed over the phone and request an email confirmation this time. I did not get a complete price match though. I got roughly 92% of the price match, with the 8% remaining go to tax because had I paid the lower price originally, my tax would be around 8% less on the difference. $7 isn't much to loose much sleep over though.

Funny that the order shipping confirmation email said it was shipped on the 16th, yet I don't even have a tracking number as of today, 3 days later. I sure hope it was shipped.

    Cheers,
    Gnimble

I called into Lenovo to get the tracking number. It would save them time and money had they just email it out. I wonder if others have the same problem?

According to the tracking information provided by UPS, the laptop was supposed to be delivered today. Except that it is still stuck in Louisville, Kentucky because it has not yet cleared custom "SHIPMENT DATA NOT AVAILABLE ON TIME TO BE PROCESSED WITHIN NORMAL PROCEDURE. SHIPMENT HAS NOT CLEARED CUSTOMS". It has been there for two days now. I wonder what is happening?

For laptops lenovo has to send the correct information for EACH of them or they won't leave customs. So that sucks and has happened to a number of people here. It takes a few days before it clears :(.

    Thanks Jaredy,

That's good to know. When I ordered my HP Laptop, it was also shipped from China through Alaska, but did not have custom problems. I received it 3 days after it left China... which I have to say amazing speed. I wonder if this is just isolated to Lenovo or it is hit by all Laptop manufacturers?

I wish I saw your original post sooner. I was in the same predicament. In fact, I told the rep. over the phone that I wanted to just get a credit on the difference between the coupons. Unfortunately, the representative did not want to do this. He also informed me that he would get commission if he ordered a new order from scratch (and cancelled the original). So, he cancelled the original, and the original order shipped the next day. Because there is a significant disconnect between Sales and Manufacturing, I was told it takes ~48 hours for Manufacturing to receive the cancellation notice. I had to ship the unit back, and I received my credit 3 weeks later! I was still charged for the original shipping though! What makes matters worse is that my original order was in early February for a T400 w/ the WXGA+ LED screen, which was just before the LED screens went on backorder. After shipping the original unit back, I had to wait nearly 2 months for the other computer due to backorder.

I'm sorry to hear of your problem Slugur; which seems to be much worse than mine. Did you get your T400? I hope you're happy with it. I wonder if Lenovo would benefit from a customer satisfaction survey after each order? It would help to alleviate problems like these.

I did not realized that the sales guy get commission for selling a laptop over the phone. No wonder why he would not let me go off the phone to order another computer online because I was undecided on which part to get; I wanted to research. After much pressure, I reordered the same laptop... I would have opted for Vista Ultimate now, especially with the 20% off coupon taking $30 off the $150 upgrade.

    warmest regards,
    Gnimble
