Hi how differcult is it to change operating systems on a laptop?
I have a T60 with xp home I would like to convert to Xp pro.

The laptop has a 5400rpm drive would it be easier to upgrade to a 7400rpm
    at the sametime?

Does lenovo supply the drivers (free) if I made the change?

    thanks Slxrti

    Drivers are free and downloadable.
Upgrading the HD is another story. You can either fresh install pro on the hd or simply upgrade the home xp that you have to pro, then create a copy of the hd and writing that on the new one. I wouldn't do that just yet, go pro for now and wait it out. In enough time, SSDs won't be very expensive and that would be a real upgrade from hdd to ssd.
It's not really that differcult :p All you need is time ;)

It is not difficult at all. Although installing XP can get a little tricky. I made a guide especially for this. It's in my signature. ;) Even though I used a T61, I'm sure the process is the same for the T60.

Here's the links to your drivers depending on your system:

    T60, T60P: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62928

    T60, T60P Widescreen: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67026

And about the hard drive. I suggest you install XP Pro on the 7200 RPM Drive and start off with a clean slate. Just back up all your things on your old HDD and move them to the new one.

Just get the XP Pro disk or buy from the Web and Run! It's as simple as that! Then set automatic Microsoft updates for the Ser Pack 2.

    Then you are good!
