    I had purchased a new 2gb DDR3 ram for my T500.

    For reference:
First slot : original 2gb ram.
Second Slot: the new 2gb ram

I got it 2 weeks ago, I placed it into my laptop and it worked fine. Then after 4 hours, windows crashed. After that, the system would crash every 15-20 mins. So I took out the new ram, and started to use laptop with the original ram. Did not experienced same problems.

Last week, I tried putting in the new memory and had same occurence. After that, I decided to see if there be any change if I switch the slot used for the each ram. So I placed the new ram in the slot of the old ram, and vice versa. I still had problems.

I wanted to figure out if it is the new ram or maybe the second memory slot has some issues. so I took out my old ram, and kept the new memory in the first slot. I had same issue again. So I thought maybe I did not properly placed the memory, so I took it and re-place it in the same slot. After that, I did not had any errors.

Then I decided to put back the old ram into slot 2, again. The errors start to occur again. I would get Blue Screen of Death of every half hour or so.

So I am wondering, does this shows that there is a problem in the second slot of my computer, or maybe the new memory is just compatiable to work with my original ram?

If it matter of a bad slot, what would I do get it fix? Contact Lenovo?

As a general rule, you should always buy RAM modules in pairs or sets of the same make and type to avoid problems like this. I know that doesn't help you know, but you need to start thinking that what you got isn't quite compatible with what you have.

First thing is contact the supplier where you got your RAM and tell them what's happening - they should be the first ones to ID what could be the cause. If they don't help, then go from there - but get a refund. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

"I would try putting the original memory in slot 2, and no memory in slot 1." It said that this configuration is illegal. I must have a memory in slot 1 before I can put a memory in slot 2.
