    Hi,
i am a new user of x61t and I would like to upgrade the memory and install wwan.
The model I have is 7762-AQ6 which comes with 1G memory. Can I get 4 Gb mem for it? I am sure that if I buy 1 piece of 2G mem I will have 3 Gb. Is there anyway to get more mem?
Since there is no wwan, I would also like to install one myself. Is this possible?
    Thanks

The x61T supports two DDR2 667MHz DIMMs. You can easily put in two 2GB DIMMs to reach 4GB (replacing your old module), or even one or two 4GB modules to reach 5GB and 8GB respectively (note that 4GB DIMMs are currently very expensive). Also be aware that a 32-bit operating system (e.g. most flavors of Windows) only supports a little over 3GB of RAM. Therefore, if you want to use 4GB, and certainly if you want anything higher than 4GB, a 64-Bit OS is highly recommended.

Does your x61T have the WWAN antenna on the top right of the display?? If so, you can install the appropriate mini-pci module underneath the keyboard to get internal WWAN. If you don't have this antenna, then a PCMCIA or USB based modem would be the easiest route.

If it is a 32-bit operating system, it will only see up to around 3.1GB of whatever you put in it anyway, and even though you COULD simply put a 2GB stick in to make 3GB total, it wont run in dual-channel memory mode unless the 2 sticks in each slot are matched in size/type. For this reason, you should get 2 x 2GB sticks and then sell your 1GB stick on eBay. Then you will be running in dual-channel mode, even though your 32-bit OS can only address up to 3.1GB of it. This is your best bet. If you run a 64-bit OS you can actually utilize all 4GB. There are some other workarounds like creating a RAMdisk (to point your paging file to), for accessing all your un-addressable RAM but there are some minor side-effects in boot/shutdown speeds that may bother some. For all practical purposes, you don't need to worry about utilizing these workarounds unless you really push the limits and need that last little bit of RAM. Most casual users will never need to though.

Also, I put WWAN onto my T61p, and it is possible, but on some laptops, you must buy the WWAN antenna assembly and install it too. Other model Thinkpads do come with all the antennas. I know my T61p didn't have it and I had to disassemble the lid and install my WWAN antenna kit

    Thank you jonlumpkin.
I just did a quick look at ebay:
2X2 Gb ram costs only <40EURO
but 1X4 Gb ram goes up to >150 Euro.
    I guess I will by 1 or 2 X 2Gb first.
But it's good to see that I can remove all ram and install 2 pieces, which means I could get 8 Gb rams in the future when price drops down.

Beside, Ramdisk is a good way to use the Ram above 3.2 Gb that windows 32 bit system can not access.

My Tablet is on the way so I don't know if there is any antenna for that.

For other people who installed second Ram, could you please put the type of Ram here? I heard that there might be compatibility issues.

    Thanks

I'd get 1 2GB stick and be done with it. Unless you've go a specific need, I doubt you'll need more.

Good to know that it's better to have 2X2 Gb identical ram. BTW, why would 4 Gb ram so expensive? could the price drop within 1 yr?
