I bought a y500 650m SLI for $1020 (no tax or shipping costs) and it will arrive any day now so I wanted some tips and answers.
I have been scouring this board for a couple weeks and have learned so much about Lenovo and the y series.

I bought from Amazon (the only place I can buy from at the moment) and it was from an alternate seller (beachcamera.com). I chose them because of their 45 day return with zero restocking so I can take it back for any reason.
I really wanted the 750 model, but pretty much only Lenovo sells it and I can't buy from them atm (I could just overclock if I really wanted more power anyway).

Since I am buying from a different website I have never heard of, they might have a older model of the laptop. How would I go about checking when it was made? I'm just praying that it will be the synaptic touchpad version.
What do you guys recommend doing to set it up? I plan on keeping Windows 8 because I might as well learn it and I will install classic shell. What bloatware can/should I uninstall?
I do not plan on buying a next gen console so I am switching to pc and this is my first gaming laptop/pc.

I wouldn't worry about how old it is because Y500 650m version is a pretty old one. There are two new waves of the same laptop, Y500 with 750m which has the touchpad corrected for 100% (even then I've seen some people complain about it.) and then there is Y510p.

The best way to get rid of bloatware is simply format and reinstall the whole OS.

As for not buying consoles, it doesn't really matter. The only reason I have consoles is to play games that never come to near PC.

100% it will be the bad trackpad. Just use a mouse.

So do you guys think it is worth it? It sucks being only tied to Amazon to buy products, but idk if I can find anything better at this price. The only thing that bothers be is the trackpad because I like to lounge around and using a mouse isn't too practical on the couch. I thought they switched touchpads back in late 2012? Amazon lists that the laptop was posted in February, so I hope I'm in the clear.
Worst comes to worst, I'll return it with zero repercussions, and wait for a new version to be posted on Amazon.

Unfortunately, it's not about my location but my method of payment. I can only use my Amazon store card.
Dang, Xotic has some amazing deals though like this: XOTIC PC | Sager NP7352 (Clevo W350ST) !!!!!!!
Maybe I should see if I can use the bill me later paypal feature.
