Looks like the T400s-style keyboard will now be used across the whole line of traditional Thinkpads.

the video in that press release is really well done as well.
-
So how many different threads are people going to make for the same news?
-
You must be new here. Welcome to an internet forum!

I've been here long enough to know how old that joke is.
-
Yeah, especially all on the first page...
-
I think the 3rd pic in the gallery really emphasizes the changes they made to "modernize" the ThinkPad look, but Lenovo'd better keep the quality and get rid of that frivolous red colour. Overall this design is exciting while still managing to keep some elements of the classic ThinkPad.
-
Sure, I can post the link to the pics in my 20-page thread, but that defeats the purpose of letting a lot of people see the new Thinkpads.
-
Or you could have updated the first post in that thread with the pics.

Didn't cross my mind. Too late now

The bezels on the sides of the T510/W510's keyboard is gigantic (probably because of the 16:9 screen), although the new speaker grilles are a lot better looking.
May just be the angle, but the machines look a bit thicker than the T500/W500s? See the stacked USB ports on the left side of the machines.
The headphone and microphone jacks have been combined and moved to the side, though. -
Yes the T510 and W510 is using a 12.7 mm Ultrabay Enhanced drive, it is basically a R500 with a T500/W500 screen case.... so it will be thicker... this is probably to increase air flow on the CPU and GPU to allow the i7 CPU to be put in, without it cooking itself or the user in the process.

Here's what I think:

Isn't it just ~2 mm we're talking about: 35.8 mm vs. 34 mm?
Stacking those ports is as stupid as placing them 90° rotated. Guess you'll simply never find the perfect notebook.
I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to use a headset with this single jack. Maybe it's time to buy an USB sound card (just let's hope it's small enough for those stacked ports
).
-
Presumably it would work with iPhone style headset (three leads on an 1/8" cable) that combine a mono mic and stereo headphones into a single jack. I would also think that converters are available (two 1/8" cables in [one twin lead stereo, one single lead mic] and one tri-lead 1/8" out), although I've never bothered to look.
-
Nokia smartphones have that, too. If you stick in normal headphones they work as usual. The head set has just an additional connector ring on the pin.
-
not sure i like where they are going with the edge and the x100e

I looked at the video of the X100e .... I am sold because it looks like a matte screen. And I hope that because it's a different size they are actually using NEW screens that can cope with video display etc perfectly. Any idea anyone if the screens on the T410 will be different ?
-
I'm salivating over the T510. Can't wait to type on that new keyboard. The larger DEL and ESC keys will make an enormous difference in convenience and speed.
-
It also means that F1 is not on the outer left any more and the remaining function keys will be more packed.
Not sure I have used the 'DEL' key in the last couple of years.. (Ctrl-D?) -
That's an interesting subtle point about the 12mm Ultrabay instead of the 9.5. I would have actually loved this for the W500 because I scored a 12mm slot load DVD burner on FleaBay for like $30. Obviously before I decided on a T/W series Thinkpad and its fancy industry standard defying disc drive (and I wasn't going for a R series...). Still got that thing, its been used in other laptops with good results.
They did manage to keep the now trademark magnesium roll cage... well at least for the bottom. -
so the ultrabay enhance drive you got is the sata connection version and not the pata connection version?
-
I don't like the way Lenovo is going. At all.
The Thinkpad no-nonsense design is being lost. -
No. I bought a garden variety 12mm drive before I had decided on a Thinkpad
Would only fit in the R series. Not a SATA vs PATA thing. Hey it was a great deal on that thing... which has turned into a loaner DVD burner to random friends and emergency sitauions.
Incidentally I did an awful lot of researching (and questions here) before I bought the Ultrabay adapter for my spare hard drive. Wanted to make sure I was buying the right version -
The ultrabay enhanced drive previous the R400 and R500 use a PATA connection and not the new SATA connection, so these two generation are not interchangeable.
-
I *like* the frivolous red color
I'm contemplating an x100e in frivolous glory, though I'm waiting to see what comes out at CES before making a final decision. -
The function keys are slightly more packed, but have you noticed that a desktop keyboard has the Esc key on the same row as the function keys? I had to get used to the function keys being shifted left on the T400, though it didn't take long.
-
I like the red color and wish they would offer that on the thinkpad T410 series hehehe
-
Didn't know that. Just like the T500 et al switching to SATA. Oh the minefields I avoided by just buying my laptop
New, Official conceptual pictures of T410, T510, W510, X100e and Thinkpad Edge - Enjoy!
