I was looking at neweggs site and they offer various thinkpads for sale. I was looking at the thinkpads. The machine comes with a standard 1 year warranty from Lenovo, but Newegg allows you to purchase various extended warrantys.

1.) Are these warranties through Newegg or Lenovo?

2.) When the machine goes for warranty fixing, where does it go to? The same place that machines bought directly from Lenovo go to?

With ZaZ's excellent information there, it may be a good idea to research what kind of experience people have had with Service Net, who is a large, national extended warranty provider, one of the 2-3 heavy hitters in the industry.

I tend to be leery of warranty providers, but some are better than others. Some I don't trust further than I can throw them (GE comes to mind). However, I haven't dealt with Service Net in years, so I can't tell you for sure. It may also be dependent on the quality of the nearest place to you that they subcontract to to take care of your issues.

i recommend squaretrade for aftermarket warranties. i have a handful of gadget warranties through them and although i have never used the service, friends and family claim that they are very easy to work with. the best part is that they are only about 10% of the original purchase price for 3 years. they guarantee to repair or replace your device with a fast turnaround.

So you have never filed a claim from them to get your money back or repair?

not personally, but my brother and girl have. it was pretty simple. depending on what your product is, i would imagine they would use an authorized service center or just refund the money. he called about a $300 phone and they just gave him a refund for the phone. fortunately for me none of my warranted stuff went down yet.
