The Lenovo website (Canada), eBay, anyplace I search I cannot find the the ATI X1400 graphics unit on the 14.1" model of the T60 line of notebooks.

Does this one only come with the 15" screen? I can only find integrated or the X1300 (64MB) on the 14.1" ones.

Now that we are on this topic, is there a reason the Canadian Lenovo website is limited when it comes to customizing the machine? The U.S. website gives the user much freedom to create a machine to their specifications.

...went to the U.S. customize webpage and you can equipt a 14.1" SXGA+ machine with the X1400, but I do not see one on the Canadian site. (I am making certain I am searching for a SXGA+ screen)

This isn't right...look at the price difference between the two identical machines (part/serial # matches):

The U.S. price is ~ $1678.88 CAN. Close to a thousand dollars cheaper in the US! Canadian 14% rate, the machine on Lenovo Canada is nearing $3000.
What is a Canadian student to do...

seems cheaper to open up a pobox in the us and then have it shipped there and pick it up.

    Is that a serious alternative?

A side note, I heard that the DVD-RW drives IBM uses (or atleast used sometime in the past) are not the best of quality. Is this true? Perhaps they are louder than other laptop drives in the market?

Mine is very quiet, with no modifications to BIOS or anything.

May have just been someone's personal experience with a faulty machine.

Eagle, how have you been liking your T60 so far? Those are great specs, with that processor about $2000 CDN. But for some reason Lenovo Canada does not let consumers customize the machines to their own needs. Very limited.

I've been liking it a lot -- you can check out my old posts. I paid $1399 with educational discount (upgraded the RAM aftermarket).

Anywase, I went through the Visaperks, and the prices are really only lower on the higher end (already expensive) configurations. As for the the lowest costing 14.1" with ATi X1300, the price seems to be only $100 less than Lenovo.com (granted it seems like they toss in Bluetooth on that model)
