My thinkpad was just out of warranty and I had a problem suddenly. There is 'no display' at all. When I switch on power status indicator hard disk and battery indicators are on but there is no display.

Can anyone tell me what to do, before visting the service center?

It could be the backlight failed. If you look very closely do you see anything? How about sounds when booting etc?

Or hook it up to another monitor if that is an option.

I had a similar problem with a T43 review unit I had, it eventually fixed itself somehow (?). When booting up I held on the Acess IBM button and for some reason got the display to come up in that mode but not Windows. Then it worked ever after. Not very reassuring, try that hack and if it doesn't do anything it's definitely a connector issue between the display and your monitor...or backlight problem as Brian says.
