I searched the forum but didn't find the answer. I have done a clean install on several of our company T61 and T61p machines. On every one of the installs the Power Manager seems to not have any default setting (i.e. with a factory install it is Energy Star, which by the way is not even a choice after a clean install). Not having a default seems to set it to an adaptive setting for the CPU speed, which is not always ideal. Anyways, has anyone else had this issue? I prefer not to have to teach every user that logs onto these machines to select the proper setting. Even if anyone knows a registry key to set a default that would work to. There doesn't seem to be a place in the Power Manager to do this, or maybe I missed it.

BTW, I have successfully created, and tested, an nLite image that will do a clean XP install with all the Windows updates, .NET, DirectX, any programs you want preinstalled as well as all the ThinkPad drivers and programs (like power manager active protection etc). That's right, no farting around with all your drivers and programs after the XP install. It will cut your clean install time down to less than an hour! And the only thing you have to do is stick in your CD. I am working on putting together a guide for building one yourself, and possibly making mine available for download (legality issues may make that impossible). I will post it here on the forum for everyone's enjoyment! Solving this last glitch with the Power Manager and integrating the solution is the final phase of my project.

Thanks Arkit3kt. I'll see if I can integrate this into my image too. BTW, your Clean Install Guide was instrumental in creating my XP image. But, I have 20 T61 notebooks sitting in a file cabinet here waiting to be deployed and I didn't want to have to run through the checklist on every one, so I created the installer with some help on the nitty gritty from your guide. Thanks for saving me some legwork!

I would love to see your guide that describes how to create custom Windows XP install CD/image that includes all the Thinkpad T61 drivers, etc. I haven't gotten around to doing a clean XP install on my T61 but it would be very convenient to have everything install from one XP CD.

Resolved! By adding the Energy Star setting to a brand new install it seems to now have that as a default. Thanks Arkit3kt! Lenovo must have Power Manager setting that as the default. I'll integrate that into my installer. I would still like to know how to change the default. I would rather it be Power Source Optimized. If I'm plugged in I want full power baby! :D
