I am truly sick and tired of my machine not resuming from StandBy. It happens about half of the time.
I go to re-open the lid, and the Moon icon stays lit while the Batt and/or AC (if plugged in) icons light up and it's frozen. The Moon light does not turn off as it does when normally resuming from StandBy. The Fix: holding the Power button for a hard-boot. Tried all other FN combinations to no avail.
The LED's for the Ethernet port show activity and I can hear a fan spin up for the HDD. ( I have the Ethernet port set to Sleep (no activity) when the Computer is in Standby).
Lenovo released an update to fix something like this, and I installed it. After a day or two, I noticed the problem was right back again.
Frankly, I'm fricking aggrevated by it. Is anyone experiencing similar problems? What should I do? Is there a support email for ThinkPads instead of calling?
Thanks.
System Specs:
ThinkPad T61p 15.4" WSXGA+
WinXP Pro (clean install, minimal ThinkVantage Apps (PM, HDD AP, SU))
4GB DDR2
200GB Hitachi 7200rpm
256MB 570M Quadro

I'm having the same exact problem on my t61p as well. I'm up to date on Windows Update and ThinkVantage update.
This is VERY frustrating. -
did you install that update labeled to supposedly FIX this problem about a month ago?
what was the purpose of that. -
I have the same problem as you do although my laptop is running Vista 64. I can’t really put my finger on what causing this problem, but I have a feeling that in my case it is related to the timing of when I unplug my wireless mouse usb dongle and before I put the laptop to sleep and also when I plug it back. It seems that I have better success resuming the laptop from sleep if I wait a while between when I unplug the dongle to when I put the laptop to sleep. Now, there are several resume – usb problem fixes from both MS and Lenovo, but none of them seemed to help.
Do you use any USB devices with your laptop?
Lenovo released a new BIOS (v 1.26-1.06) update for the T61/p which fixes some resume problems:
* (Fix) The computer may hang at the power-on if device configuration is changed in the BIOS Setup immediately after resuming normal operation from hibernation mode.
* (Fix) An error may occur at the power-on after ThinkPad BIOS Settings for Windows runs and then the computer goes into hibernation mode.
Hopefully this fixed the problem, I installed it yesterday and as much as I tried, I couldn’t recreate the resume problem, but I need another week or so before I can be sure that the problem is completely gone. The update is available for some reason only on the R61 driver metrics page and not on T61 page, but it is intended for T61/p as well (by the release notes). You can find it here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67988
Or in iso format:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67989
Another thing I can think of is that there is an assumption, that some of the T61p with the FX 570m 256 MB are defected: When under heavy 3D load and with certain memory configuration the laptop shuts it self off instantly. Some users reported that after getting their laptop motherboards replaced, the problem got fixed. There is a chance that what these problems are related. No Turbo Memory, but I do have Active Proctection installed (and PowerManager and System Update).
Will try the updates suggested by nurio. -

Is there an actual service for the APS? I found the "logging" service for it, but not the real deal. Did you just disable it from starting up? I doubt disabling it from the program will prevent it from starting on the next boot.

They releases a update about 1 month ago that fixes this problem. Have you installed it yet? -
From the update around 2 weeks ago to fix sleep issues, I have not had any problems since then (i am still keeping my fingers crossed) -
I applied all updates, I still see this problem daily. I have a normal Lenovo Vista 32-bit install and my unit has Turbo Memory. I think it's a combination of Vista and Lenovo issues. I also installed all the latest Vista KB updates for sleep issues, but nothing has solved the problem. REALLY FRUSTRATING!

And the KB941649 MS hotfix as well:

i applied all the updates too and im running windows xp no turbo memory or anything and it still happens to me too.....

on more than one machine?
with APS deactivated and removed from startup, it still fails to resume from Standby. Happened twice since last night. -
Which "update"?? -
-
Yes, I have the new Bios, KB941649 and I did the hybrid power saving mode disable. Still happening. ARGH!
-
i installed the new bios 1.26 this afternoon.
i've since resumed from standby three times successfully. (knocking on wood).
i hope i can say the same in a couple of days. -
Good to hear that.
Since I installed the bios update I resumed from standby at least 10 times successfully, without any problem. Before the bios update it would have probably failed at least once. -
Bios update has fixed my problems
-
^^^^good to hear
Now, does anyone have the opposite problem? I plugged in my external HD, and vista failed to recognize. I went to go restart the computer and accidentally clicked sleep. Next thing I know, the computer screen shuts off and the notebook HD does some activity and it restarts. Upon restart, I get a message saying that the computer was unexpectedly shut off and gives me the option to start in safe mode? Is this related to a USB issue? wtf is going on
This is the first issue i have had in the past 3 weeks, but still annoying nonetheless -
Well, crap, I have the new Bios and now I CAN'T GO INTO SLEEP at all. My system goes to a blank screen and just sits there on, totally locked up, until I hold down the power button and turn it off manually. 100% of the time now I can't seem to go into sleep at all. Argh!
-
Okay, so I did some testing this morning.
Turns out I can go into standby after all. Clean reboot and now I can't get the damn thing to fail. This is with the docking station plugged in, external HD and iPhone devices attached, and Outoook 2007 running or not running, all seems to work going in and out of standby. Also tried with and without Bluetooth and the wireless dongle on my Logitech mouse. All's good.
But on other days I do have major issues. So I'm thinking that perhaps it's related to some software running sometimes on the machine which keeps Vista from going into standby. Some sort of background thing perhaps or even a main application which keeps it from suspending. Not sure what yet, will try to narrow it down.
At least for the moment, I can use this damn thing to go into standby successfully. -
100% successful standby's for one whole week! And I use standby a lot.
BIOS is the fix.
Wisdom, hope you get resolved soon! Keep us updated. -
Hi all,
I really was hoping that the BIOS update is the fix. After doing a full update through the ThinkVatage utility (including install of the last available BIOS) I didn't have problems for a whole day. However this morning my R61 was again "death" - no way to go out of stand by. Really bad filling.
I'm searching for a solution for a week already. I did a lot of tests, installed was drivers for the videocard (nVidia) - no results. Well, after the bios update I did have only one time standby problem, but I DID.
Does anyone have an idea or a solution? Thank you in advance.
