    Hi all,

I bought an R61i and it came with Vista Biz. I prefer XP, so I followed the guide on here and installed XP using a CD and licence I bought from another machine. I've installed XP ok, but I have 2 issues:

    1) I installed the UAA, Audio and Modem drivers yet have no sound

    2) In the Device Manager, there are 3 "Base System Devices" - How can I find out what they are? I ahve Bluetooth and the Card Reader and the Fingerprint Reader all installed, so they are baffling me. I don't seem to have a Webcam built in either.

    Thanks,

    Karl :)

    1. Did you make sure that the sound is unmuted?

    2. Can you double click on each device and post the location and the status of each of them?

Does the laptop have a mute botton on the exterior?

    Device 1:
    PCI bus 21, device 0, function 4
    Code 28

    Device 2:

    PCI bus 21, device 0, function 3
    Code 28

    Device 3:
    PCI bus 21, device 0, function 5
    Code 28

I know the Code 28 means no drivers, but if they were installed I wouldn't be here :p

The Sound has been fixed. Don't know how, but it sorted itself out when I installed some Windows Updates

    Thanks :)

That driver worked, thank you :)

It confused me though - I thought the reader was already installed as I inserted an SD card to test it earlier and it read fine

Thank you for your time, all replies and help is appreciated :)
