I lost sound on T520 after sleep. I owned the machine for over a month now.
In an attempt to fix the problem, I updated the Conexant audio driver to the latest version, and when it didn't work, I manually uninstalled and installed the program. No avail.
According to the device manager, all the sound-related devices are functioning properly. I can reduce and increase the volume, mute it all together; I can see that the computer is picking up the sound by looking at the volume gage (by clicking on the speaker icon on the task bar), as grey and green bars are constantly moving to and fro.
What happens is whenever the sound should come on, I hear a "pop" sound from the left speaker. When I run a video, there's a pop and silence. When I'm logging off the computer, there's a pop. When I turn on the itunes, there's a pop.
I tried almost everything I can do within my power, searched the web for an answer, and none of them worked yet.
It is very frustrating.
What more can I do? Please, help me!

I just found out that even the beep sound is gone. When I put the system to sleep, there is a beep sound to alert me of the change that has taken place. However, instead of the beep sound, I get the aforementioned "pop." It is EXTREMELY frustrating.. I tried to restore the computer but no restore points have been created... Please, OMGAHHHHHHHH I need help. Help me..
And also, there IS sound via headphone. So is it the hardware problem? The computer was not physically impacted in any way. I put the computer to sleep, left it untouched on my desk for a couple of hours, and then the sound was gone. Would I need to send the system for repair and wait A LONG time before it's handed back to me? Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? I really don't want to waste 2-3 weeks... -
Hi, I have the same problem. Were you able to resolve it? Thank you...

Try to manually update to the latest driver posted on Lenovo Support.

Well, I tried Fedora and same results - headphones are ok but only pop sound in the speakers. I tried to put headphones in and out several times (as someone suggested - there is a small piece of metal that switches between speakers and headphones, which may be locked). No luck though.
Then I tried to remove the keyboard and keyboard bezel and little bend and move the wires around the 4pin connector (there are the speakers connected), and the sound is back -

Yes! The silicone glue should do the trick. But for the next RAM upgrade you would need a crowbar.

I actually fixed the palmrest creaking. A little piece of black thin duct tape in the right spot between the two plastic parts and now its perfect
No sound on T520
