I think that there is a simple answer to my problem but trying to find a solution is driving me crazy.

    Hi,

First a disclaimer. I've never done a winxp clean install. Only win7. So I could be wrong on everything I say.

    (1) I would not use Driver Whizz to get drivers for a thinkpad. Or any 3rd party software for that matter. Use windows update, or go to lenovo's site and download it there.

    (2) Not sure what you mean by "I also downloaded the toolbox from lenovo". I have no idea what that is.

    (3) You didn't list your machine type. It's on a sticker on the bottom. That means I can't look it up on Lenovo's site to see what driver are specific to your system. But an audio driver probably isn't specific to any one type of T60.

Lenovo's site is different from the last time I was there.
Holly cow this is a lot of clicking to get to the drivers.
    Go to:Lenovo.com > Support > Think-brand products > Download Drivers and Software > 1 Type= Laptops and netbooks > 2 Series= Thinkpad T series > 3-Subseries= Thinkpad T60 > 4-Machine Type=All Machine Types (cause you didn't specify but that's okay) > 6-Operating System=XP

After all that, I see Audio is the first section listed, under that there is

    Audio Features XI for Windows XP, 2000 - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver (Q888111) for Windows XP with Service Pack 1
Under this you'll see a ReadMe and a driver. Did you install this?
If not, read the ReadMe, and install it if you think it'll work.

The easiest way is to download the Lenovo's System Update and it should find all your missing drivers. Also you can try Lenovo's support site.
