Video (played on Windows Media Player/Real Player/VLC Media Player/Winamp) does not play on the new Lenvo TP R61. Though the file Progress Bar is seen to move, no audio or videio is heard/seen.
I uninstalled the Sonic & DLA Programs that came pre-installed. And added VLC Media Player & Winamp.

Would any of the Codec packs help ... as I have read that they may worsen the problem by installing their own codecs.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

Has it worked before or is your R61 new?

First time I tried to play a video file [DVD video disc, also a .wmv file & another .mkv (Matroska Video)], it did not play.
However, at this time, I had already uninstalled the WinDVD, Sonic/DLA programs.

I am presently able to play audio (MP3) files; but for video files, the video is not displayed (there is a blank screen/space where the video should be & this screen space changes as per the change in Aspect Ratio).

Attached are screen shots of the Video Codecs that are currently installed on the laptop. (obtained with CodecInstaller).
I have not yet installed any new video codecs.

Video Codecs wouldn't hurt. I think by installing WinDVD and the Multimedia programs, it installs the codecs required to play DVD format videos.

For example, I have not installed WinDVD or Sonic programs on my T61, so I cannot play DVDs.

A handy utility called Gspot can tell you which specific video codec you need, so you don't need to install a bunch of packs or anything.

    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

It's pretty much dragging the video file into that program window and it'll let you know. If you can preview it in that Gspot program, then you have the codec. Very cool.

    Good luck.

That or try K-lite from google search, it pretty much installs every driver needed.

edit: errr not driver I meant codec.
