I'm getting really annoying noises from I think the pc3-8500 ram that i installed lately and its specs are here
SAMSUNG 2GB DDR3 1066 PC3 8500 1066MHZ SODIMM 2 GB
204 PIN Memory
1066Mhz
SO-DIMM
Non-ECC
Non-Parity
Voltage 1.5V
Gold leads
Unbuffered
Cas Latency 7.0
Timing 7-7-7-20
Im wondering if i got the right ram because its making really annoying whining sounds.
-
RAM shouldn't make any audible noise. no moving parts or anything.
-
Whining -> Hard drive usually (might be a sign that its about to fail).
High frequency buzzing -> could be some other, non-moving, component.
Really depends on the definition of a "whine". -
-
its really high frequency type of sound
-
Most likely "Penryn whine" caused by the CPU sleep states. This is unfortunately a common problem on many of the newer Intel based laptops.
If you do a search on this forum you should find info on some workarounds. Unfortunately most of these workarounds involve tweaking the processor sleep states and will have a negative impact on battery life so you need to weigh the tradeoff of whine vs. battery. -
-
I usually get whine from really big overclocks/underclocks on cpu/ram, usually more from heavy underclocking
-
Can't it also be the hard drive?
-
The three things that could be making noticeable noise are the hard drive, CPU, and the cooling fan.

Remeber the part does not have to be moving to make a hum. Example: TVs do it all the time or cheap lights.
Noisy DDR3-is it because i got a cheap one?
