I got a t61p 14.1'' T7800 with vista powered by AC adapter not battery.

My problem is that the fan is running continuously even in idle and is blowing out cold air. And it is getting annoying.

I tried to change the Thermal and CPU Management in the BIOS but it didn't help. I also had 110 processes running in idle, so I tried to cut down on then, but I am not sure which I can turn off. I tried to use Safe mode, then I only had about 20 processes but the fan ran the same as before. When I tried all of these things and in addition changed the battery management to the absolute lowest the fan actually slowed down in idle, but this makes the screen very dark.

I have read that several others have this problem too, but found no good solution. Please help.

PS. have somebody tried out the program TPFanControl on T61p?

    TPFanControl reduces fan noise?

I thought it is a program for temperature monitoring.

    @ Renee

TPFanControl worked like a charm. I have used it for a couple of days now and haven't noticed any downside despite all the warnings in the redme file.
Thanks for giving me the last push.

BTW do u know at which temperature it is safe to keep the fan low?
I have put the fan on level 2 = 2500rp which give a gpu temp in the low 50C, which seem safe, but if I do some heaver processing it increases.

I am also thinking of decreasing the number of processes running at idle (110)
do u know how to choose? i think there should be a program for that too?

    Cheers

TPFanControl lets you specify the fan speed at different temperatures.
