Problem with non-ThinkPad hard disks - ThinkWiki

Is this still an issue? I'm having a tough time gauging whether this has been fixed yet or if it still applies? I have a WD3200BEVT from my old Gateway that I wanted to use in my new Lenovo. Thanks for any help.

Unless you've got one of those machines, I don't think it's an issue.

By new do you mean as in a brand new laptop or you are getting an used Thinkpad but new to you. The current Thinkpad does not have these problem. If you are thinking about getting any of the following laptop from the source as you can see they also has unofficial mods to fix those issue.

shouldn't be a problem on newer models. I upgraded my t500 with a WD 500gb 2 yrs ago and no problems since.
