Since I couldn't give a definite answer to this question posed by my friend as I diagnosed her laptop, I am hoping someone here would be able to...
This is regarding the 3000-series laptop adapter. When plugged in, it gives off a very faint but constant ringing sound. It is so faint that it can only be heard when you are actually a few centimeters shy of touching the unit with your ear. Apart from that barely audible noise, the laptop and the adapter are and have been working fine. There are no power spikes/surges (and I tried plugging this in different locations but got the same ringing effect), no intermittent charging, no loose wiring, and no excessive/increasing heat build-up. I have also tried running it for 9 hours straight but saw no adverse side effects. Nevertheless, paranoia lingered since I was under the impression that these things are supposed to run silently.
Oh yeah, this unit is already almost 4 months old so shop warranty/replacement won't be that simple (as is shipping it back to Lenovo). Professional diagnostics and repair would be costly, especially if it is found out to be a false positive.
Anyway, while this is more of a minor OCD annoyance than anything, I am left unsure. This is just beyond me.
