Hi, I'm a bit concerned about my temperatures on my T61p.

With my Antec notebook cooler 200 with fans set to max, and with my T61p set to max performance, without performing any serious tasks(such as browsing internet, etc), I have a temperature of 63 degrees Celsius.

    Is this normal?

During gaming, it goes to about 70 degrees Celsius.

'Max performance' idle will be hotter than 'balanced' idle, because the CPU will run at it's highest multiplier/voltage even if it's doing nothing.

Yes, as long as it doesn't overheat when gaming. Those CPUs can handle a lot though.

That depends on your ambient temperature - if you're living in Arizona, that would probably be quite acceptable. If you're living in Alaska, that is unusually hot. In general, I'd say that's on the hotter side of idle temperatures. In the Bay Area, it's quite warm now and my T500 is idling at 37 degrees C.

You can probably reduce your temperatures by cleaning out the heat vents. Dust clogged there can drastically increase temperatures.

Though remember the T61p and T500 aren't directly comparable in the CPUs and cooling design right? My x200 runs in the 50C-60C with the no/low fan settings. However the machine itself doesn't get very hot.

My t61p idles 37-40. Sometimes will spike to 50-60 randomly when not doing anything intense. Your temps are higher but definitely fine.

Yeah, definitely. The T61's with discrete graphics generally seem to run a bit warmer, so the OP's T61p is running a bit on the hot side, though not to the point of being dangerous.

My T61p runs in the low 60's as well. It's a bit warmer than I'd like but have seen it pop up into the high 80's or low 90's when encoding video files. A few times it's gotten hot enough where it will shut itself down.

Was the T61p where some people adjusted the clamping pressure of the heatsink? If you are getting to the point where it shuts itself down that is too hot (just out of annoyance too).
