Hello,
3 months ago I bought ThinkPad R61 which came with preinstalled Vista Business. I bought it in a not english-speaking country and even though I understand the language, I still prefer the english interface. I wasnt pleased with Vista either so I decided to downgrade it to XP english-uk.
I called the tech guys asking if they can do that for me, but apparently downgrading has to occur to the same language. However, they shipped me 7 strange cds saying that all I need is to insert CD 1 and everything will be installed by itself (I had to switch CDs, though) to get XP SP2 eng.
I was willing to downgrade myself using the online guides but since they had told me that the CDs contained all drivers I decided to save my nerves. Plus, I got the CDs for almost nothing.
Everything went great and fast and I was ready to go right after the XP "welcome" screen with internet and all.
And even though the laptop started working MUCH faster there appear to be problems.
- I started losing power significantly faster. I've already installed Power Manager
- All the handy search for wireless internet connections and bluetooth in ThinkVantage menu has disappeared. In Vista it was handy to switch between wireless profiles (since I travel a lot during the day) but now it is all gone from the tab "Resource Center". I have Access Connections installed, though.
- The most important thing, my bluetooth and wireless internet function kinda weird. I somehow got connected to my home wireless internet connection but I cant search for other.
With Bluetooth it is messed up even more - I have the icon in the tray but I cant open the search for devices box (in fact, it does not respond at all).
I ran System Update already and installed everything except some totally useless stuff like WinDVD updates, etc. So what I've got to do now?
Not another Vista downgrade problem
