Just got a new t420 and for whatever reason, it refuses to wake from sleep. Sometimes it does nothing at all, other times it will act as if it was booting up (light from camera flashes and makes noise) but it just keeps repeating this every 5 seconds or so.

Any idea how to fix this? Would love to be able to put it to sleep instead of constantly hibernating

I should also add that I've updated everything

All I can suggest is the usual.... check power manager is setup for what you want the computer to do with lid down etc., reinstall OS as a last resort. Do you have hybrid sleep activated?

My T400 sometimes has a mobo fart and will not sleep when I close the lid, but when I then immediately open the lid it goes to sleep... the exact opposite of what should happen! I never did figure out why.

I had to upgrade the BIOS to fix this issue on my X220. Check for BIOS updates.

Hybrid sleep is off. Closing lid leads to hibernate. I changed it bc of the sleep problem.

I really hope I don't have to reinstall the os. Sigh

Go to the Lenovo support site, select your model and download the latest BIOS (you need the BIOS update utility) and drivers. Alternatively, try using the Update facility within the ThinkVantage Tools.
