Yes, the X250 has just one memory-slot and 8GB is definitely not enough.
The good news is: All notebooks and ultrabooks with the new Intel 5th Generation Broadwell-CPU can use 16GB SO-DIMM memories from Intelligent Memory!
See the link to Lenovo Forum here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/16GB-SO-DIMMs-work-in-X250/td-p/2035319
The German magazine Notebookcheck already tested them successfully also in E550, W550S.
The modules are not cheap, but at least available now.
Any maximum memory capacity you see specified for Broadwell-based laptops can now be doubled!
Even Intel does not show this on their ark.intel.com website yet for these CPUs. The reason is that it only works when the modules have a special spec (a timing value for refresh) that is better than the official DDR3-standard-specification from JEDEC. Intelligent Memory 16GB modules have that spec, thus they work fine!
But please note: The modules will NOT work in older machines like X240. They can only be used on machines with CPU code i3, i5 or i7-5xxxU (the -5 is important!).

Nice but damn that is expensive! I'd rather spend that money on a 1tb ssd.

This favors the T450 over the T450s (2 DIMM for 32 GB vs 1 DIMM and 1 soldered for 20 GB). Now the cheaper model looks even more appealing. >_>

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
Finally something good about Broadwell!
Now 16GB DDR3 modules available for X250, T450s, etc
