hmm... I'm not happy with these numbers... 3-4 weeks of waiting for a laptop? What the hell is going on? Or they just say so and usually ship earlier? Anyone has experience in ordering Thinkpads recently (Lenovo Canada espcecially, but I think it shouldn't differ from Lenovo US)...

This is a typical time frame they'll give, if it's for a newer model such as the Z series then I'd believe it'll take the full 4 weeks, no doubt. If it's a T or X series then it might not take that long and could be as fast as 2 weeks. I've not ordered through ibm.com in a while -- i'm a little lucky in that they send me a review unit usually
(but i can't keep it
), but this is what i hear mostly from others. i ordered a t40 a couple of years back and got it in two days by ordering through a non-ibm site.

When I ordered my T42 in August, Lenovo Canada got it to me in 10 days (7 business days).
I've heard some real horror stories about wait times for T43 laptops - up to 8 weeks of waiting - so 3-4 weeks seems pretty reasonable for a brand new model. Hopefully they won't have the same supply issues that they had with the T43s, but I would still expect to wait the full 4 weeks for a Z60, at least at this point in time. -
hehe... the Lenovo representative said with smile that Z series will be available in... "2 to 3 months"... 2 to 3 months?! I've asked... "Yes sir, that's correct" was the answer. (Lenovo CA)
Anyway, I've read that Thinkpad are just selling verry good, so thats the reason IBM doesn't have them in stock. In that case, I think if I order one, they can say 2-3 or even more weeks, but they have no idea when they will get it (well, up to a certain level). Cause they order them only when someone wants one (according to Lenovo's representative)... so when they order it, they can get it fast from the central (or wherever they come from) or they need to wait (and thats where 2-4 weeks eta comes into play)...
well, at least thats what I think... -
I think its ridiculous - it just seems like Lenovo/IBM has no control over their production and distribution. If the Thinkpad brand name wasn't so strong, they would be going out of business! How can you introduce a new product like the Z series and make people wait weeks before they can get them?

You're making too big a deal out of it. Once the laptops get into mass production and circulation, waiting periods will shorten and everything will be fine.

I ordered a "build your own" T42 on 8/7, and it shipped on 8/23 (received on 8/26). I returned that due to some dead pixel issues. Then I ordered a ThinkExpress T43 on 8/31. This one shipped yesterday, 9/28 and it's in customs right now. The estimate in the beginning was 2-4 weeks, so I guess 2 was a little optimistic. Both were ordered through lenovo.com and both shipped from Hong Kong. I think they are a little overwhelmed by the recent high demand. Definitely order one through a reseller if you need it sooner.
OMG! estimated time delivery 3-4 weeks!
