In the past few weeks I have noticed dime sized blue marks on my screen clustered around the center part. They look similar to the mark your finger leaves on a screen if you press on an LCD, but they dont go away. Nothing has changed with my use of the notebook, and nothing really corresponds with marks. I am at a loss and a new LCD panel is being shipped to me courtesy of Lenovo and my 3 year warranty.

Any ideas what the hell might be happening?

I actually had a magnet affect my LCD once (the bottom right of the screen was blue), I know magnets are only supposed to affect crt's, it didn't make sense to me either...

Did you have a magnet anywhere close to it recently? But it would have to be a really powerfull one

Is this on a Thinkpad? Could it possibly come from the trackpoint? Is there anyone else that may have used your notebook? Have you tried using VGA out to rule out video card problems? I'm also suspecting something behind the screen itself, like the roll cage or however the screen is manufactured.

Hopefully everything will be fine when your screen comes in!

that looks like the result of poking your lcd screen and not returning to it's original state...

    at least you're getting a replacement =)

Looks like it yes, tapping my finger on an LCD is one of the last things I would ever do though. The only thing that touches my screen is a a cloth when I wipe it off.

most likely you probably just have something pushing against the screen between the lcd and the back panel.

Is Lenovo sending you the panel and you're servicing for yourself? If so then try removing your old panel... and see if there's any protruding or irregular shaped things behind the panel... try cleaning whatever is there and put the old panel back and see if that fixes it. If so.. you'll have a free new panel for spare! =)

Lenovo shipped me a new panel to replace the current one. I have a 30 day window before I am charged something like 700 bucks if I dont return the old one.

Got the replacement screen during lunch, not bad considering I called in and placed the order yesterday afternoon.

Replacement panel is a NEW panel, not refurbished.

Took me like 1 hour to do the swap, including the time to take it all apart again when I failed to plug the inverter back in and it wouldnt turn on. The back of the screen cover floats a bit off the panel, so nothing was pressing against it.

The new screen is flawless and amazing. HUGE difference in terms of brightness and everything. 40% brightness on the new screen is like 100% on the new one. Such a difference a new backlight can make.

No odd marks showing up on this one, or distortions around the area where the old one had it. My electronics buddy thinks it might be a mildly leaking panel or something odd.

    They wouldn't replace a IPS with a non-IPS.

Interesting, it means that they must have quite a few of those in stock, in case of warranty issues with the old Thinkpads.

Same part number and revision it looked like

No idea what went wrong on the panel. Nothing was behind it, nothing was bent.

Yea and if you have a 1600x1200 T60p you better hope they have stock because the company kinda went under that used to make them.

I think there was a poster over on ThinkPads.com who got a UXGA FlexView replaced with a non-IPS, but Lenovo fixed it. They keep a certain amount of screens for warranty replacements.
