    I had ordered the T61p a week ago and I'll be receiving it quite soon. But I forgot to upgrde the drive to dvd burner and just noticed it now. Where can I get one which will fit into the T61p and quite fast, cos I need it before August 4th. And will I be able to upgrade it myself??

    yes its very easy to swap out. all you do is push the slider forward and a tab pops out. pull the tab and the drive ejects. you can replace it with a spare battery, sata adapter, etc...

    find the options open to you via lenovo->support->[type in your machine type]->parts list

    get the FRUs for the models you want and search for them on ebay, 3rd party sites, or you can buy it from lenovo/ibm brand new (most expensive)

    my part/fru for my dvd burner is 39T2851

    good luck

    i dont know.

    flip your machine around. You will see a machine code. its

    XXXX-YYY (x= numbers/y=letters)

    XXXX = your machine code

    find this number. then go to lenovo's support site and type this in. You will find a pdf that list the possible parts yours was assembled with.

    look at the dvd section. whatever part/fru's you see are compatible with your machine.

    Other part numbers MIGHT be compatible, but the ones on that pdf are a sure fit. if you find a drive you think will work, but is not listed, ask the seller

    I have heard that it is hard to find a DVDRW drive that is compatible with the T61 other than the one that Lenovo uses since the T61 uses a super slim form factor for the drive. Why don't you see if you can buy one from Lenovo directly?

    Do you plan to write to DVDR's quite often or just the odd time? If you're only going to burn dvdr's the odd time then it might be better to just get an external DVD burner with a usb interface. And those are more readily available at retail chains.
